second interval by ty_

[raw]
made by ty_ for Ludum Dare 51 (COMPO)

second interval is a music-centric exploration platformer, made for ludum dare 51.

the melody is broken, scattered across the world in minor second intervals, floating around various forests and biomes. deposit and construct the melody every ten seconds that you collect. restore peace and joy to the world, and listen to the song come alive!

use arrows or wasd to move and jump.

play with sound on for the full experience.

this game was made for ludum dare 51, for the theme "every 10 seconds". my interpretation of the theme is of the musical meaning of "second", an interval between two notes.

everything in this game was made in 48 hours by bucketfish.

hope you enjoy!

Really great game! I love your unique interpretation of the theme. The controls are super tight and responsive and the levels are pretty well designed in my opinion. Really love the art style and the audio (that final track in particular is such a banger), honestly the only real way I can think of to improve would be to have the background track get "fuller" as you progress through each level (maybe have each level add an additional stem to the background track or something similar) to really sell the mood that you're bringing music back to the world.

All in all a very solid game and can tell a lot of hard work went into it.

I actually found the controls to be a bit sticky sometimes - which was hard for me because I'm bad at platformers, but despite that I really enjoyed playing. I love music-themed games that aren't guitar-hero/ddr-like rhythm games.

The chalky art-style was fantastic. Lots of potential, of course, but also just such a great game for 48 hours.

This game is so freaking lovely. I love the tail on the nameless hero, the final song is amazing, I love the little notes that play whenever you land. And I love the different interpretation of seconds. Really great job!

There is so much that is good here. I love the visuals. Both super clean and super clear, scalable and still lovely. The audio was a real treat and truly enjoyable. This deserves a bigger longer game. the wonderful mellow feeling of discovery and calm hit perfectly.

Your game is visually charming! Gameplay is good, it was fun to have corner boosts here xD
I would have love to find more challenge, with obstacles or enemies, but I understand the very peaceful tone of the game.
Very happy to see games where music has an important place (I tried to do that in a different way in my game).

Well done :)

So wholesome and endearing! As a music teacher/composer, I adore your game! The music is phenomenal, and I love the little touches like the instruments as your sfx. The art really pulled together the mood/story. Great entry!

Watched this game on siraeron’s stream, but wanted to have a go myself as well. This is a really gorgeous game, from the music, to the visuals and the concept. It has quite an individual art style and although the controls can be a bit fiddly this doesn't detract from the calming vibe. I definitely recommend playing this through to the end!

Really loved this one! Lovely graphics and the work with sounds! Finished it completely; it restored my peace and joy too. I didn’t understand the use of the theme until I read the description. Very clever!

I was already impressed by the polish in the game before I found out it was a compo entry.

The intro was gorgeous, and the music was really cool. The platforming was a little uninteresting, but you had a really imaginative take on theme. Well done!

While I'm playing the game, I'm always curious about what the melody will eventually sound like. And it does sound great! Love the final song XD

Wow, this is kind of incredible! As a music guy, I especially loved your take on literal "10 seconds", where there's a focus on major second intervals between the notes, and how it's shown in the SFX and music too! Animations fit perfectly with the overall mood and environment too, and the artstyle was adorable.

One thing I wanna say is that I do think that the collecting SFX can sometimes clash a bit with the BGM, and how jumping/hitting other boxes sometimes accidentally cuts out the previous audio. But I'd love to see an expanded concept of it in the future though! Could see the passion poured into the game :)

This is the first game I saw that was able to find another interpretation of the theme! Cool idea and well executed. The contols feel smooth and the music and graphics are great! Liked that a tone is played when you hit the ground.

Enjoyed this for its simple platformer element, but also really liked the graphics (especially the transparent platforms) and the music. Well done.

The visuals are really cute and the audio is lovely and chilled out! Particularly enjoyed the nameless hero's little blinks and the piano notes every time you land or bump into a platform.

Really lovely!

The art was very cute! I found the platforming a bit claustrophobic sometimes with the way the character's collider was. The use of theme was really unique and refreshing, I liked the interpretation of music a lot!

So sweet! It encourages me to finish a music-based idea I've had way too much time as a rough prototype. Thanks!

That was very cute! I enjoyed the sound design, and the fact that the main goal is centered around music. The semi-openness of the level gives also a nice progression. The platforming isn't very challenging, but satisfying enough in term of exploration. I had a sweet time playing this. Well done!
