Peekaboo by VictorFinger

The Game

There's been a mass breakout at the local mental institute! Deranged individuals are on the loose, and while the police are collecting crazies, you need to protect yourself from anyone entering your property using your modified fusebox with the ability to tase people! Will you survive long enough for the police to come?

unknown.png

Controls:

E to toggle the selection of objects (so you lock onto the computer, onto the fusebox, onto the door), LMB to interact with interactable objects (you left-click to switch cameras, left-click to tase, left-click to look through the keyhole).

IMPORTANT:

You need audio to play!

How to play:

You need to keep an eye on the cameras surrounding your house, and make sure that you know where any deranged individuals are at, then you need to open your fusebox and zap them. If you manage to use the taser-fusebox on the place where the crazy is at then the crazy will retreat.

PRO TIP: IF YOU HIT HIM YOU WILL HEAR HIM SCREAM, AND HE WILL MOVE AWAY FROM YOU! IF HE DOESN'T SCREAM THEN HE'S MOVED CLOSER TO YOU!

Good luck!

I really like the game idea, the controls and the voice acting :D sadly though I couldn't play too much because it was quite laggy / had a lot of latency :(

Crazy game brov, really good for a jam. Some work can be done on mechanics to make the game a bit more tidious

ok that knocked me out of my chair. A short jumpscare moment although I was prepared for it. Unfortunately, I do not see the given theme. Nicely modeled for the short time. well done

@keip If you listen to the psychologists Schiz and Frenya they will tell you that due to something called the "funny theme disorder" the escaped crazies will move every 10 seconds. :P

The core idea is solid and the addition of voice acting coming through the radio to tell how to play is was a nice touch. There were a few times that I used the fusebox but I wasn't sure if I actually got them or not. After using it and turning back to the camera, they were no longer there. Not sure if there's an audio cue I'm missing or if there just wasn't one. If not, it would be a nice addition for player feedback..

The idea of the game is great. I really like the tutorial part with voiceovers. But I wish there were some way to skip the tutorial, e.g. by turning off the radio.

However, the biggest problem of the game is the lack of feedback for a timer, at least some sound of ticking. Also, there are no sound cues when the enemy moves.

Anyway, good job.

@aristurtle Since he moves every ten seconds you need to be quick like one of the "psychologists" say :P When you hit him he will make a scream and teleport back to the start. Thanks for playing and thanks for your feedback!

oh my god this game belong with the legendary horror games on itch.. I hate it, with every aton in my body (in a good way). as a fan of horror games this really got my adrenaline rushing, even the menu made me go WTF lol

geniounly one of the scariest games I played in a while I think it does a great job at playing the anticipation game, letting the player's nerves burn slowly before anything happen. and I love it for that!! reminds me a lot of 5 nights at freddy's. I really wish you guys get work on this further and publish it on itch at one point... anyway I think the only thing I didn't like is that the game was a bit heavy for my Gt1030, it was quite laggy which shouldn't be the case for a mostly static game, I'm pretty sure you can optimize it to a point where it can run on relativly low end devices while still maintaining a playable quality, but that's just me talking... anyway really great work. this was one hell of an experience for me!

Oh my god, this scared me proper and it's the middle of the day

Loved everything about it, simple yet tense. May be a creepy music would have added more but I'm not even sure, the quiet tension is always a good horror tension builder!

I like the atmosphere and the graphic had a amnesia sort of feel. However it was quite laggy and unresponsive and I have a decent PC. Quick tip, having feedback when I go over something interactable with my mouse (visual hightlight, audio cue) would make the game much more enjoyable.
I think you definitely nailed the horror game atmosphere :)

oh nooo!!!! i'm so bad at horror games, as in i get scared super easily, so unfortunately i had to close the game early, otherwise i'd poopoo my pants. nothing actually happened yet, but being alone in a room at night and in the dark with radio chatter gave me hibbly jibblies (some friends made me watch them play PT awhile back and anything with creepy atmosphere and radio chatter has scared me since then xD) super spoopy for me!! but that's great, because that means the game set the mood really well! similar to some other folks here, i did have quite a bit of lag, and i would like to think i have a pretty decent pc setup. hopefully there's a way to adjust the game so that it can bring a smoother experience for those with lower end rigs.

Hey all epic gamers! a little post form one of the devs here. Its so amazing to see the feedback you guys give, I think I've played every game in this comment section so far and they've all been so great! so humbling to get such great feed back from such a powerhouse of talent! Anyhwo, we'd like to apolagize for the input delay as it seems to have affected some peoples experience. We dont know if this is a blueprint inneficiency kinda problem, some visual rendering issue or whatever it might be, but yeah, we're sorry. If this is the case for you, we would very much appriceate it if you still could lend us some other piece of feedback with your comment so that we can improve this game even more down the road. Thank you all for playing!

Absolute banger of a horror game, nice jump scares all around. The narration at the beginning was a fine addition, set the mood nicely. The overall length of the game could have been longer tho. Performance was quite abysmal, and motion blur was quite intense. Theme was well respected, sounds were epic (the monster screams especially) and graphics descent. Great job overall!

I won! Very cool concept. I really enjoyed zapping the monster! Cool idea with the radio and I like the voice acting. Good combination of theme and scaretober! I'm amazed at what people make in 72 hours.

Was a bit laggy on my laptop and couldn't really see much on the cameras (maybe that was intentional :D). The game does have a nice look and the mechanics work well. Pretty solid game overall though and did feel quite tense and gave me a bit of a scare. Good job!

This was very fun to play. Feels like the game is locked at like 25 FPS for some reason. Turning is super laggy. But aside from that great effort. Well done. Also like the voice acting. :-)

Good game with a dense atmosphere! (and a rather mean jumpscare :D)
And it was awesome welcoming you to the stream again yesterday! Here’s the VOD if you want to check that out again:

Fuck this jumpscare :p I think the idea was funny and could give a quite scary and stressy mood. This was however undermined by the actual gameplay. I found it quite confusing I didn't really see much on the monitor because it was very dark. When they came in through the window ( I think) I did not see at all, this all just felt unfair. To me the " 10 seconds" thing was also not very obvious even though the voice in the beginning said it was there. About the voice-over, this was nicely done and added a lot to the atmosphere, it was also a nice way to do a small tutorial. Overall I think it was a nice idea but the execution could be better. EDIT: a lot of my gripes could maybe be because of the lagging.

Shakedimus
14. Oct 2022 · 16:28 UTC
@maxkyckling well from reading the other reviews it might have just been that it was lagging. The pc screen was super dark for me and also in the window I couldn't see the crazies coming. So then it just felt very unfair and not fun. So just make it a lot easier (or less laggy)
