Virtomae - Virtual Pet Buddy - Pet Anything by lletzgogames

[raw]
made by lletzgogames for Ludum Dare 50 (EXTRA)

A 2000s-style fully cusomizable virtual pet game! Take care of your virtual buddy of choice! Have fun together (play an increasing number of minigames, listen to music and watch videos) to make sure they are satisfied! You can also connect with your friends! Return to your pet daily to help it prosper!

The plot:

One day a little robot vacuum from space landed on Earth, crashing into a small-town laboratory. After being discovered in the pile of shards and rubble by one of the interns (a.k.a. the player), the cutesy device turned out to be a friendly, pet-like companion with a very unusual power... turning itself or all of the surroundings into any objects imaginable! Deciding to befriend and reverse-engineer the small cleaner, your goal is to help them survive, stay happy and make sure their mission of exploration is successful, before it's time for the inevitable grand return to Venus.

Controls:

Mouse + buttons - most in-game actions; ESC - leaving the minigames and some other sections; R - sending the robot back (resetting the game)

The core game itself is finished, yet aspects of it are still in active development for future updates. The game is based on the system clock and the inevitable is in its case your pet being gone (such a situation can take place if the pet wasn't cared for and visited by the player frequently enough).

Neat. I always thought virtual pet games were pretty interesting and wondered what happened to them. Nice to see one.

Alpha v0.2.9 thoughts: The various customization options are a neat idea, I didn't dig in and test them just noted that they were there. I like the street view with different places to visit. I think this is a promising project!

Interesting with the Pet game, and the tools you choose clickteam fusion also surprises me ! the control and the interactable places are a bit confusing! maybe add some stroke to make it more accessibible! good job!

The way this thing ran was a bit shady, we weren't expecting it to open files outside the game lol that took us off guard. The idea of a virtual pet that you can customize is great, would have liked to see some more subtlety and focus around the pet though. The game splits into a lot of mini games that don't feel cohesive so I would focus on nailing the core pet mechanics and rewards, then extend into how that can be used in minigames. This way the pet still matters even though you've expanded the gameplay. Keep going!

It took us a while to figure it out, but I'm glad we were able to figure it out in the end!

Nice game! There is quite a lot to do. Love all the addition: changing pet appearance, arcade game, pet needs... Good job :)

@xjcl I am sorry, the only way to fix this is to pay for an expensive SSL license. You can always try clicking to open anyway, I am 99% sure there shouldn't be any real issues.
