There is only one thing that is inevitable in every game. It might be sweet when achieved but still hurts when it happens. No wonder, both player and character are willing to do anything to postpone it. The truth is none of them knows where do you go after you win.

Controls:
arrows — movement / jump
space — attack / action
R — restart
esc — quit

After dying more than dozen times to those spiders I tried peaceful challenge and got the ending actually it's very short if you run I would've liked to see more because controls are responsive & fun in platforms, good job congrats!

A simple game, a bit too simple for my taste, even for a jam
But yeah, it fits the theme and it's kinda fun! I feel like your character making dialogues with you how he cherished our time together if we decided not to go to the end right now would be u fun idea :)
Also the controls and hitboxes are a bit too precise and unforgiving, but this could also be a feature :)

EDIT: After mentions from the developer i decided to try again and the game has more content than i thought.
The Platforming still is too clunky and there are no indications that You can *SPOILER* go everywhere after you win.
It's a cool idea, could be more indicated, and after the tedious platforming many players might be too tired to try and find stuff.

My idea: Put a question mark after the end, and an icon that might indicate something.

My complaints about platforming in detail: When you run into an "enemy" while the hitbox is active, the hit doesn't register after the initial frame of attack. Sometimes you get hit while you think you shouldn't.

Upping the rating, positively surprised :)

the controls felt quite good but the literal controls i would have liked a choice for wasd but since mouse wasnt needed arrow keys and jump was quite good aswell the platforming was good and the game felt smooth

Cool game and good feeling controls. Wasn't expecting the conversation at the end. Very nice.

@rufus @mlkvr thanks for the reviews, actually the game is not as straight forward as it seems, there is some hidden content, probably too hidden, but we didn't have time to integrate some more hints :grimacing:

@mlkvr @rufus Well it's short for those who decide not to sympathize with the in-game character :). We had longer platformer phase but then we decided to shorten it so it's clear that it is not the main part of the game.

@jzucc12 I fear that what you understand as "end" was just the beginning. Consider taking a second look :eyeglasses: Thanks for the feedback

Wow, I was not impressed initially, but after discovering the additional... stuff? My jaw dropped. VERY VERY Clever.

Loved this entry! The main game was challenging but didn't feel punishing, it catered to the part of me that has to keep trying and trying until I win. I liked that the game rewards exploration without giving much instruction, there were several "oh... OH" moments and I feel like there may even be more I missed. Really great, memorable entry, well done :)

I left the guy chilling on the beach in the deck chair in an open browser tab. :beach:
Probably gonna leave him like that for a bit, while playing other LD games.

Well done, Thanks!

Congrats on finishing your game!

I found the game to be a little frustrating and difficult. Not having a checkpoint + unclear enemy hitboxes made for a lot of deaths that felt unfair or unclear. I couldn't get more than a few jumps into the second section. After nearly 15 attempts, I decided to give up. Sorry!

I REALLY liked your art style. The simple sprites read super clearly and the attack, however basic, looked really cool. The controls felt pretty good after I got used to them. I'm used to jump being space so my first few deaths were just getting used to controls lol.

Neat little jam game. Keep making games and learning and improving! :)

It keeps a consistent style, i don't know if it's the colors but kinda has that commodore style to it. the hit-boxes need some serious work though, things were nowhere near me and i kept dying, makes a game where you die instantly and restart somewhat annoying.

Nice graphics and vibe! A bit of improvement on the controls / physics would go a long way.

Wow, cool and amazing. The first time I finished the game I thought that it does not quite fit the theme. It was only after reading the comments I realized that there is more :v:

Pretty fun concept, animations really break the routine, especially on chair was not expecting this:P The only thing that's not so bad considering this game, but maybe should be rised - You changed the artstyle a bit after the ending. At first its from side, later its top down. Usually it would be pretty bad, but here it works I think because of this "easter egg". Nice work.

Oh wow, took me a little bit to figure out the real ending, but it’s a treat. Very clever. I wonder if there’s anything you could do to nudge the player toward that final twist.

As for the early game, I found it a bit frustrating because of some floaty jumping and (as someone else said) unclear hitboxes.

The art style is cool and reminds me of Nidhogg!
