Isn't it a bit hotter than normal outside? by axelrinaldo

Say, isn't the weather a bit hotter than usual?

Place buildings around the globe in order to escape an expanding sun in this quickpaced game. Strengthen the power grid with solar panels that will only work better and better the more dire the situation is, produce resources with mines, slow down the suns expansion with freezing cannons (do not ask me how they work) and build a spaceship to escape your doomed world.

Controls: * Mouse only * Though you can quit using Esc

Tools: * Unity (though I will bloody well switch to Godot, waiting 30+ seconds every time I change a line of code is not for me) * Aseprite (Used poorly) * Krita * ChipTone * Bosca Ceoil

Soooo, how did my fifth LD in a row go? Well, I whipped up an idea and design in 20 minutes and managed to implement it so that's a success. I would say it's either an improvement or just as good on the technical side as my previous entries (especially the latest one) but... well... I don't think it's very fun? And of course it could have used more time and polish in basically every area but that's simply a product of LD being timed. ;D Feel free to help me find where I went wrong (or say what you liked about it) by leaving a comment. :D Now I will pass out, see ya when it's time to start rating games!

Neat idea, the balance is a bit off tho.

Not sure if it's intended but with enough freezing cannons you can decrease the Sun to 0% and from this point it doesn't increase anymore.

Besides that I don't think you should be able to reverse the expansion, only slow it down. Even if you did that the game is still solvable. Something that would help is add random events to disrupt the players plans, that would also increase replayability.

Also I love the rocket animation with the stages, nice detail.

Nice idea, global warming is great theme with delay the inevitable.

UI doesn't scale, you have to play fullscreen for icons not to overlay value. I would love some explanation of what is the purpose of each building. I was missing actual price of energy for each building.

@garazbolg2 Ah, yes, the sun not expanding again is a bug, I really should put aside more time for testing and balancing lol. I did have planned to make a separate ending for getting the sun back to 0% but ya know, *time*. :D Some random events would be nice though, the game being a bit too "stable" doesn't help the fun factor. That rocket animation was also even better in actuality with the spent stages being discarded from the rocket but for some buggy reason I did not manage to solve building the project broke the subemitters of the rocket particles. :/ Thank you so much for the feedback! :D

@2demigods Well frick, that's a bit embarrasing... Thanks for telling me! :D

@gummibot Hm, yeah, I really don't like how Itch.io puts the game in that small a window. :/ Updating the building cards with info on energy cost was something I planned to do but completely forgot, oops. :) A thousand thanks for the feedback! :D

I somehow managed to get to negatives in the energy, and it let me keep doing stuff. I love breaking games! This one was fun, and I liked the art style. This is a great game, and you should be proud of yourself. You did amazing work on the rotating building grid. I have no clue how you did it, and I have been programming with unity for a while. Great work! To me, there should be more audio, like energy generation noises, and the sun getting louder or something. I love this!

Took me a minute to get the hang of it, but I enjoyed my time figuring it out. The game over screen was pretty funny. Overall a great entry, thanks for sharing!

I'm not sure how, but I was able to stop the sun at 84% and then just had to wait for the space ship to finish. I'm sure you've heard about it before anyway.

Regardless it was fun, I played it all the way through and that to me means it's a good game. PS. I like the music, gives me nostalgia - even how the sound 'distorts' as it loops. Nice.

The mechanics were a little difficult to understand at first, but once I got the hang of it I liked it. The visuals look good, and the rotating rockets and cannons and items are impressive

Muito divertido e diferente de tudo o que eu já vi, só peca nos gráficos e no áudio, porque de resto está supimpa. Aposto que da pra fazer um jogo maior com essa base, se eu fosse você tentava 😎

Strangely enough beating the balancing - or lack there-off - was pretty entertaining :P

Reached an equilibrium of sun expansion and cooling (after like 8 replays or so). But at that point I couldn't build anything to replace coolers for some reason. But waiting it off makes evacuation inevitable if I just let it sit for a while :)

I expected a really different game when opening it for the first time. Very simple but challenging mechanic. Probably having more time at the start to think about the strategy can be good.

Not a bad little game, couldn't stop myself from playing over and over until I beat it.
