Wordquake by phi

made by phi for Ludum Dare 49 (JAM)

So you're just minding your own business, testing out a word puzzle game in some jungle temple. But oh no, the earth starts shaking! It's a devious trap!

Build pillars to keep the temple stable during earthquakes so you can escape with your life.

If you're confused: - Click the letters to move them to a column or back - Drag the letters to reorder them within a column - Form English words and click the checkmark to lock it in place and get points :money_mouth: - Pillars collapse when there isn't a correct English word in them

This one is great! Making words with the remnants of previous words you made is honestly super cool. The graphics were excellent and the music was good too.

Awesome job!

Awesome game! Really love the creative take on the theme. Sadly it's a bit hard for me to play as a non-native english speaker but I had a lot of fun!

Unfortunately I can't rate as I didn't get to participate but this was a lot of fun! Fairly easy to understand, great mechanics, and really good sound. Very nice job!

English isn't my first language so this one was a bit challenging for me but I think I wasn't so bad :p
Taking this into consideration, I did felt like the earthquakes were a bit too frequent/fast, and I would have liked mor time for reflexion. (but then again, not my first language) (maybe an easy mode in a postjam version? :D)

Selecting a pillar was sometime a bit slow and tedious with the mouse, especially with the time constraints. I'm not sure how exactly this could be done, but maybe have a shortcut of some kind to write a word faster?

That said, the game is really great and I will probably give it another go later tonight!

Great work and thank you for your game!

Really cool game!
I found myself wanting to be able to drag the tiles all the time.
Love the leaderboard, and the theming is really good.

:) Very fun game! It was a lot of fun to play. I was more captivated than most games I've been trying.

Great pixel art! Great music! Really nice feel to the game. Well built!

But, I really wanted to try to hack your leaderboard afterward... Or submit vulgar names.

Great game I'm happy to find a word game in here. I played a couple times it was a great experience. The leaderboard was fun too cool idea to make people want to play more to get that high score! The graphics and SFX were great too. Hope you had a fun jam!

The leaderboard certainly kept me going a lot more than I intended to stay on this game! Couldn't make it to the top 10 though, no matter how hard I tried :'D.

What I didn't expect was some prefixes working, but others not working (i.e.: "oi" vs. "quo"), which I guess is fair still, since the Q gives so many points and the vocals in hand can get a bit overwhelming with a bit of bad luck. Other than that, it felt immensely satisfying building 5+ letter words!

The music serving as a tool of how much time is left is incredibly helpful! Great job all around!

Now, If there was only an option to change the language to German... :P

This was an awesome use of the theme, I really like the idea of rebuilding words from previous rounds. Unfortunately I am very bad at word games. I liked that the music could be used as a timing cue, so I didn't get half way through a word before a quake. It would have been nice to have some way to select letters and more importantly place them, that didn't involve the mouse (maybe using the keyboard numbers to pick the column) so I didn't spend so much time moving the cursor around. I'd really like to see someone good at word games play this. ^_^ Good job!

I got a lot of repeat letters, situations like 5 I's etc, I had fun though, I think the ideas really interesting. I wonder if the timer for the earthquake could be a little longer just for a couple rounds or something. Good work tho!

Cool word game, you don't get many of them on jams, and fun to play. I managed to get rank 70 on the leaderboard, which wasn't great, but having a working leaderboard on a game is always nice to have. Also liked the music and the graphics too.

I really liked this. Clever idea - I'm not amazing at word puzzles but I still enjoyed this a lot. Nice visuals and audio as well. My only slight criticism would be sometimes it felt a little unresponsive.
