Life Gives You Lemons by Chairshot Games

[raw]
made by Chairshot Games for Ludum Dare 49 (JAM)

Life Gives You Lemons is a bite-sized satirical story-game about watching cable news, grocery shopping, and trying to work in an increasingly unstable world.

Explore 5 areas to that change as the game progresses. They are all full of easter eggs and jokes I hope you will enjoy.

I used the great art assets from https://limezu.itch.io/moderninteriors, if you like top-down 2d art, I strongly recommend buying it.

The graphics are cute! Can't predict how the story will go.

I loved this game! It was really funny and I especially adored the parallels to real life. Excellent work! :)

Unique take on the theme, with the game locations changing across time.
The graphics are really nice, the only thing missing would be some audio. Overall, nice work.
Really enjoyed the twist ending!

Cute graphics and loads of writing. It was fun to interact with all the little objects and figure out which ones you could interact with. A little bit of audio would go a long way; it felt a little lonely as a silent game (or if there was supposed to be audio, I couldn't hear any).

Cute and unpredictable : ) The dialogue for all the little items were very entertaining!

Hilarious little game, I got a good laugh out of it. Was all extremely detailed and well thought out. I believe you will score well for humor and I also think your pixel art is on point. GG

Thanks so much for the nice feedback everyone! It really means a lot. I did want to clarify @osh-studio that I used third-party art assets for this game, so the pixel art isn't actually mine (this is why the graphics category is omitted). Anyone can license the pixel art from the link in my game description, it only costs a couple bucks and I highly recommend it. Everything else in the game is my original work. I agree @mediflect that music would help my game, and it will be a goal of mine for next time. I will try to play the games of those who have commented here, and the ones I have already played are really incredible!

Lovely looking game, always remember to have some island margin/slightly oversized tile sets so you don't get the lines between tiles in the game.

I really enjoyed it :) Brilliant inclusion of satire in a well-made game that communicates the objectives well and is full of personality and funny easter eggs for the player to discover. Really great job, well done :)

Nice narrative but a little clunkyness of tecnical stuff. Colliders are a bit too wide and movement seems obstacled by hidden forces :)

As everyone says the graphics are just spot on. Great job implementing them. I loved the controls. Very pokemon feeling to me! :D

Very fun game, with nice graphics and humor. One question though, was there any music on the web version?

Solid little narrative game.

Lack of audio makes it feel a bit barren in a weird kind of way, it's surprising how much audio feedback helps especially in narrative games like this.

Already first news on TV made me laugh! Great job with the game. The humor is sold, the art style is cute and controls feels good. Only thing missing is some fitting music.

Btw. Just a heads up for the next LD, since you do not have music or sound effect you could turn off ranting is that category when you submit your game.

@stelios Thank you for playing! Unfortunately I didn't add music to my game in any version, it is one of my biggest goals for the next jam

You've got to love HappyFun cultists thinking that metallic foot fungus is a hoax, lemons will cure it, and not wanting to where shoes. I'm sure any similarities to reality were purely coincidental. ^_^ I guess the good news is there is no way they can keep up with us if they are barefoot.
This was a neat game, maybe a bit too much text for my taste, but the writing was funny. There were a few places where the theme seemed present, but it would have been nice to see it a bit more. Good job!

I loved it. Could definitely have used sounds - any sounds at all. I had a bit of trouble interacting with a couple things like the bed but overall I loved it. On point for the times.

While this genre isn't my cup of tea at all, I couldn't resist to see how the story unfolds :) A good job. Love the pixelart, it controls alright and even I was able to get to the end. But is it the end? :)

Cute graphics and an environment packed with details! Some layering issues spotted, but nothing that detracts from the experience too badly! A solid entry overall
