Paul's Game by Jordan Smith

[raw]
made by Jordan Smith for LD34 (JAM)
This is the story of a scientist who has been caught up in the sadistic games of an artificial intelligence, that holds Britannia's king hostage. Otherwise, it's a puzzle game, where the solution is randomized every time you play.

NOTES: I was overly ambitious with this game, and had too much faith in my ability to get it done in the allotted time. As a result, the game is unfinished, which mostly means art assets are missing (animations, graphics etc). This was my first full Ludum Dare, and now that I understand what I am capable of doing in 72 hours, I hope that next time I will be able to produce a more finished game.

Ultimately, I feel as though this was an excellent learning experience for me, and I look forward to Ludum Dare 35.

Fun idea. The game mechanics didn't work flawlessly for me but that's not too big of an issue.

Even though I went through the tutorial twice, it was still quite hard for me to pick up!
I got it in the end and it proved to be quite fun, cool entry!
I did have trouble picking up the specimens occasionally.

Very hard and challenging. Also hard to understand the controls, but grasped it in the end. Pretty nice mastermind game once you get there.

Main idea with figuring out the "rules" was very nice. Actually most difficult part was figuring out machine input format (could use symbols instead of letters), even after watching tutorial. Some music and maybe more SFX would be nice. Overall, solid concept.

I am very impressed with this entry. It's an original concept and requires some knowledge to domain the game. Good entry :-)

I didn't really understand what to do... The tutorial screen I saw in your second image never appeared. I really liked the story and the concept though, and the graphics were pretty good. :)
