The Discloser by agentparsec

Description

You've stumbled upon hints of a conspiracy within the city, one that will shortly enact a plan to give it permanent control of everything. You don't know who's pulling the strings, and nobody will believe you anyway without proof.

You must investigate the various groups throughout the city and find proof that links them to the conspiracy. Doing so will also delay their plans slightly, but you will need to prove two links to whoever the true master is, in order to disclose the truth and stop the plans.

ss_02.png

Features

  • Randomly-generated conspiracy tree, different each time you play
  • Adjustable conspiracy board, move notes around as you see fit
  • Narrative-driven gameplay
  • Music that ramps up as the conspiracy deepens

Tips

  • Remember to sleep! Acting while out of energy adds fatigue, which gradually increases your chance to fail any action, and it may take multiple sleeps to get rid of all fatigue. (If the sound is muffled at all, you still have fatigue.)
  • Any group with a string attached is definitely part of the conspiracy and will eventually yield proof of one kind or another. Unattached groups are still worth investigating if you have free time though.
  • Red string means the link isn't proven yet, while green string means it is.
  • Any time you find evidence, it increases the chance that the next evidence you find will be the proof. Likewise, any time you fail at an action, it increases the chance that you will succeed at the action next time.
  • All links have a master and a puppet. Puppet groups are the ones completed with a checkmark when the link is proven. This will help you determine which way is deeper on the tree.
  • You don't need the entire tree to win; you only need to prove the two links to the true master when you find them.

Tools used

  • Unity (2019.2.126f1)
  • Reaper (v5.983/x64 rev 3fd15a)
  • GoldWave (v6.41)
  • Adobe Animate (Version 20.0.3 Build 25487)

(Note: I continue to have trouble exporting from Unity into any other platforms other than Windows. Until I get this sorted out, please understand that I can only provide a Windows version at this time. Thank you!)

Excellent game one of the only game in this jam that I really wanted to take the time out to finish, even though it was long it kept my interest the whole way. could easily make for a really good full game someday!

This was quite a text adventure. I loved how I felt like a real conspiracy theorist, connecting the dots in a deep conspiracy. I felt like it took a lot of clicking to get through, and it was a bit hard to understand what my goal was and how to reach it. When I got the aha moment, it was a bit too late in the game loop. It would be nice if there was some sort of sense of progress in the game. You absolutely nailed the theme, it felt truly deeper and deeper! Thank you for the game.

Interesting concept for a game and take on the theme 'deeper and deeper'. Kept me playing for a long time because I wanted to be successful and reach the end of the game, however got a bit lost/stuck throughout and was unsuccessful. A 'hints' section could be handy. Well done with the game though.

Very cool concept could do well with sudo randomness to give a more catered too story. Its currently a little abstract. Missed the win condition at first so I ended up losing the case, but will try again soon.

Very impressed with what you've done with random content. I was invested in trying to unlock the mystery, and the content gets better as the game goes on. Excellent take on the theme, too.

This game seems to be the one I played the longest out of all submissions so far :) Great idea, I love visual style of the game with pieces of paper, cinematically connected into the complex structure of clues and revelations.
At first on [stream](https://www.twitch.tv/videos/1007202934?t=00h04m35s) me and @badabooom63 didn't completely understand how the game works and decided to complete it out later, so we spent few hours afterwards trying to come up with a strategy. I guess that didn't quite work out as well, as on the later stages all the huge progress you make gets diminished very fast
I personally believe that frustration must the only possible outcome of a consiracy theory investigation, but I hope this game is possible to finish :)
Here is the furthest we could go: ![3.png](///raw/667/d3/z/41f17.png)
All in all, thank you so much for this game!

Spent like 3 or 4 hours playing it, liked it a lot. Didn't finish it though, it seems to be too hard at the "third" stage, didn't understand why I cannot investigate anything there. Liked that the music changes at the different stages of investigation. I think with a proper (not randomized) story it can be done as a full game (I understand though that it was not possible because of the small time-frame).
My best result looked like this:

Amazing result for COMPO!

I really love that game, that's such an interesting take on the theme, and mockery of conspiracy theory is kind of a guilty pleasure for me. It is exactly the kind of game I would love to make, now I wonder why the theme did not inspire me that kind of concept !
Of course it is not perfect, it can become a bit repetitive at times but it works really well, and reducing the investigation to the link board is so clever ! Really good job.

Really excited to see someone make an investigation conspiracy game, especially considering the theme. I got pretty deep into the investigation. Loved how things go completely off the rails at the end. The aesthetics were great, they served the game well and had a very old school OS vibe.
The last phase is pretty difficult and it's pretty hard to get to the end (if there is one) even on subsequent playthroughs.
You could also definetly improve comprehensibility by having the symbols on the post-its match those on the action bar.
All in all a very cool experience !

Spend more time than on any other submission. Didn't understand how to win. Had fun. Nice!

I'm a big fan of mouse-driven UI games. I played this for almost an hour and I lost (even though I still had plenty of turns left?) but I enjoyed it none the less. The random generation rogue-like-y nature of it is a really cool twist. I liked how the tiredness mechanic worked, pushing forward on the task at hand despite being too tired to continue and failing due to fatigue feels very relatable (especially in a game jam). It felt very strategic when I was trying to most efficiently use my time to investigate all my leads and reach out to my contacts. The music is nice and I noticed the music changed partway through which was interesting but I don't know what triggered it.

Although I do have some nits here and there if you're looking for feedback for a post-jam build:
- It's nice that everything was mouse-driven, but having hotkeys for the 4 basic commands would have been really nice.
- Typo: "but from hom?" when I think you meant "but from whom?"
- Unclear on the difference between a "turn" and a "day"? Are they different, why is there a difference?
- I wish the icons on the sticky notes aligned with the icons on the left, Decipher is a sheet of paper on the left but a pentagon on the sticky note, for example.
- When I didn't have any leads (AKA: all I can do is "Research") it was unclear to me what the best use of my time was, I kept researching the same two notes that had red lines connecting them trying to turn them green and I kept coming up with nothing.
- Although the music is good, the sound effects are really lacking

Got lost for an hour and half on stream. DON'T PRESS ESCAPE or you WILL lose of work.

It is very simple and elegant game for a game jam. The game is very complex and love how deep it goes. Wish for a final release that certain tags will have a bit more polish. The core game play loop is already almost perfect. I do wish that certain actions, especially at the later stages had a bit more to it.

I never thought I would ever see a sticky note game. Didn't understand how to get to winning but that is okay

[Thanks for submitting your game to the stream!](https://www.twitch.tv/videos/1015053228?t=03h33m39s)

This was pure unadulterated madness. I had a blast playing this one once I figured out how to do everything. I think the game could stand to have a better onboarding/tutorial experience, but once you get into the groove, things get wild really fast.

Excellent job on this one!!

Great game! So much complexity done in so little time. The mechanics are appealing even to those who are not willing to read big texts, delivering them by bits of information is a great way! Gets messy once you got enought postits but that's the way real crimes are solved. Great work!

Love the idea of this, and it turned out awesome! Way more fun than shuffling around sticky notes ought to be! I did notice a few typos, but hey, it's a 48 hour jam - my game had typos too.

Overall, loved this one. Will probably play again!
