HarvesTurnip by Colisan
You're an honest turnip farmer. Doing your job, as every day.
You found a rock in you turnip field... Unwilling to drive your beloved combine harvester on it, you step down to remove the unwelcome stone...
WHEN SUDDENLY
Your not-so-beloved-anymore combine harvester starts running again. And you're on its path! Fly you fool!
Instructions

Controls
- W (qwerty), up-arrow, Z (azerty), or space: to jump and double-jump
- A/D (qwerty), arrows, or Q/D (azerty): to move left/right
- S, down-arrow, F, shift, or ctrl: to perfom [ACTION]
- R: quickly restart (not a leftover debug key, totally an intended feature)
What is [ACTION]?
- If you're atop a turnip: harvest™ the turnip
- If you're atop a rock: grab the rock
- If you're holding a rock: throw the rock
- If you're atop a tree root: shaky-shake the tree

Mechanics
- You either harvest a turnip or don't, no letting go once you started!
- Harvesting™ a turnip take longer the larger it is!
- You hit a deadly mushroom: you die painfully
- You hit your combine harvester: you die even-more-painfully
- When you carry a rock, you can't double jump
- The combine harvester hits a rock: you gain some time!
- Thrown rock fall on another rock: they stack, and will combine ~~harvester~~ effects.
- Thrown rock fall on mushroom: it bounces
- Thrown rock fall on turnip: it crushes the turnip :broken_heart:
- Holding jump while harvesting™ a turnip charges a bonus super-jump (really, not a bug, totally an intended feature!)
- It gets faster (bad luck, the crop field was sliiightly on a slope...)

Scoring
- Harvest™ a little turnip: earn little points
- Harvest™ a medium turnip: earn medium points
- Harvest™ a large turnip: earn large points
- Harvest™ a t-h-i-c-c turnip : earn t-h-i-c-c points
- Harvest™ apples: earn exponentially-increasing (in a short time window) points for each previously harvested™ apple
- Let a turnip/apple get shredded by the rogue combine harvester: loose 1 point
About the game
Game made entirely in 48 hours for the LD compo.
Tools used: Clickteam Fusion 2.5+, Aseprite, BFXR, Audacity
If you need it, saved playername is in: %APPDATA%\Clickteam\html5Cookies
It was planned, but I ran out of time to make the music, and a final polish/VFX pass. I'm still pretty proud of the game =)
Hope you'll enjoy it, thanks in advance for playing!
Post-deadline "Smallfix" version
Those fixes don't really change anything significant rating-wise, but by respect for fairness I still have the deadline version available below. All fixes are: - Sound was too loud for some players - Fixed one text not showing in instructions - Fixed two typos in instructions

> kodingnights : I would love to be able to abort harvesting the turnips though
You'd love indeed, but wouldn't it defeat the whole dying-of-combine-harvester-if-you're-greedy thing? =D
> 0xWAVY : Wish I could play this one, but I’m on mac
Sorry, the html exporter is a pain to get working with Clickteam Fusion... I'll take a look at porting it in the coming days, and ping you if I manage to get something working =(
> superpokeunicorn : I do feel that the game rewards overly cautious play
Indeed... until the acceleration point where your only choices left are "take big risks to earn point" vs. "watch your score get slowly eaten away" (at least, that's my purposely-designed intent)
> superpokeunicorn : Feels like it needs to escalate more quickly to push the player to take more risks
I already cut down a whole bunch of get-back-in-action time compared to my previous games, but maybe I should do it even more. It's a hard thing to balance with newcomer needing time to learn at first (doing an unranked tutorial level first would a be good alternative, but I never have enough time to work on it ^^)
@kodingnights Coincidentally, I also saw your reddit post on MuGen ^^ I may try having a go at it in a future jam for sure =D
What I like about the game are all the little details that you have to learn - how long does each mushroom take? Are the apples worth it? The risk-reward is strong in this one.
And online leaderboard! Wow! Fantastic.
All that is missing is some music :notes:
Thanks for the game!
I love the graphics and that farmer! So cute!! Should be more careful and turn the engine off and put the handbreaks on when he gets out tho.
Great sound effects.
Engaging gameplay.
Addictive game.
High-score mode.
Three hours later.
Probably my favourite game this jam, so far!
*(nooo, I'm not salty AT ALL to see my own score shredded.)*
Although... I don't want to spread havoc in your team tho... but this @MooNiZZ here... they're coming for you

I managed to get stuck once where I was on-top of a turnip trying to harvest it, but it played the first frame of harvesting animation (no sound) and then just stuck there until I got run-over by the machine :(
The only thing I can think of that I didn't like was when apples flew half a screen to the left. :P
Very nice game!
Sorry it happened. It's actually a visual-only bug, you're still harvesting the turnip and will get unstuck after the correct amount of time. It's a tryharder-only bug as it happen when you press jump frame-perfectly right before landing on a turnip :sunglasses: Sadly, I saw it a bit too late and wasn't able to fix it before the deadline =( Still happy you enjoyed the game, very very nice score!
@pianoman373 What a funny coincidence that you happen to reach and die precisely at 373 :eyes: :eyes:
Happened to me all the time while developping ^^' Retrospectively, I should have added non-toxic brown mushroom that just yeet you forward, for fun, for speed, and for the risk of falling into a toxic one =D I'll keep that in mind for the DLC :smirk: Still a very nice score @shreemp! Glad you liked it =)
Here’s the start of your game if you wanted to re-watch initial thoughts youtu.be/_eTFfxJO2YM?t=3678
Charming animations and graphics, sfx fit the style well, good ramping of difficulty! Great entry!
Even i don't have some feedback about this game! so enjoyable!
If you have some extra update bout this game like mod or contents when this competition is finished,
I recommend add some 2P mod in this game! Like tractor guy and turnip farmer!
Thanks for made this game! Cheers ;)
Very addictive - well done!
Collisions seem to be smaller than I expect, which is nice for the evil mushrooms but sucks when I land on the corner of a turnip but [ACTION] doesn't work and then I lose a lot of time repositioning.
Very fun though, if it didn't strain my hands so much to play what is essentially a timed precision platformer, I'd play a lot longer :smile_cat:

Really mindblowing to see someone do that well, I'm honored by your dedication
Thanks a lot to @Frozendoze, @Aurel300, @Ategon and @kuviman too, loved watching y'all fight on the leaderboard :two_hearts:
And kudos to @pomo for the commentator-ing, made my palms sweaty with the tension and suspense, I was thrilled during the whole event!
