Alien Fruit Harvest by LDJam user 315277

[raw]
made by LDJam user 315277 for Ludum Dare 52 (JAM)

The fruits are ready to harvest! Use wasd/arrows to move, hold space and move keys to jump.

This is my very first jam game. I tried participating in one before but wholly botched it. So this time, I determined to finish a game even if it was the smallest and stupidest game ever. It turned out to be even slightly enjoyable. Please let me know if you want to see a better version of the game.

nice game, no bugs that I found :)

I'd like if the character stayed still while I aimed

A fun play! The audio is great, and the feedback when the player character bounces against things, both its visual jiggling and its cute squeaking sounds, are top-notch.

I did find playing a bit strange—I liked how powerful the jumps were, but using the arrow keys instead of the mouse felt unintuitive for a game in this genre (which I would usually expect to have a drag-down, release-to-launch-up control mechanic). The result was that I felt I didn't have much control of my character, something that felt especially unforgiving when you can fall so far back down! I didn't know I was signing up for a sequel to "Getting Over It with Bennett Foddy!" 🤣

Thank you for the submission, and happy developing!

Took a while to get the controls, cool game overall.

I like the look of the Alien !(same for the sway)
Maybe the max jump is really too strong ?

This is a neat concept, I like "fling the character" games! I found the lack of any air control or double jumping really punishing (as another reviewer mentioned, _Getting Over It_ vibes). I also found the screen flashing to be a bit intense/distracting.

I really liked the feedback on the character with jumping, the noises and jiggling made it feel really great. I ended up getting frustrated and quitting because I got a really unlucky jump and fell all the way back to the start a few times, so maybe some doors that close behind the player as a checkpoint system could be good.

I made it to ten before falling hard and giving up, but I enjoyed the experience! Nice sound design and graphics, though the music gets repetitive. Also the physics look top-notch to me!

Good audio, good physics - a really good effort. It gets quite difficult - it would be easier if you had some air control after you 'launch', but I suppose the difficulty and accidentally falling back down really far is part of the fun!

Nice! I liked the audio! Congratulations for making this game. Quite difficult and frustrating, but I guess this is what one expects from this kind of game.

I absolutely hate this jumping mechanic :D After falling back to the start twice, I went and flipped the table. But the THING, whatever the thing is, is incredibly **adorable**. The sounds effect are brilliant. Very simple entry overall that would need something more to be fun.

Loved the music, sound fx -- those stood out to me amongst other things like the colors, art.

It would be more fun and slightly less frustrating for me as a player to be able to control movement mid-air. Wonder if that would affect your intended difficulty though. Great game!

begging you to make more small stupid games, this was a delight! Also, the pain of missing that one jump.......... sdghsdga

I thought the game was pretty good. Fun, I played for a while and still never reached the top. Didn't have much to the theme other than the fact you picked up fruit as you jumped up the platforms.

Fun game. I like the jelly-like bouncy effect of the character. Move is a little bit too slippery.

Great feedbacks ! This game is a LOT frustrating, just like games like "Getting over it"

A bit simplistic, but at least it's finished, as you said! Good effort, I liked how the jump was unreliable, creates a lot of good frustration! Congratulations on the jam :)

Well done, first game jam and working by yourself! The music and sound effects was solid!

Great entry! You should be proud! Using the space bar in combination with the aiming was a little frustrating, I would love to see something like the mouse being used to be more precise with the aiming. I definitely had my fair share of setbacks, but I chalk it up to me being impatient and trying to aim/slam the character with little regard to speed in the direction I wanted to go. Good work!

Congrats on finishing! Great effort. I love the colors, the main character design, and the animations/sound effects of the main character. Just awesome. I feel like the game needs some balancing—either a jumping/aiming mechanic that's somehow a little easier to control, or at least a few more or bigger platforms in the beginning so you don't risk falling so far until you're getting the hang of the mechanic. If I wanted to get good at it, I'd basically have to sit and practice aiming for little tiny platforms over and over again and missing almost every time. Having some success while learning would definitely up the fun factor for me.

Not bad for your first ever jam!

I don't think that there was really a need for the acceleration/deceleration on the ground to be so low (ground movement is super slippery). I don't *love* super punishing games (I quit basically immediately after losing progress, which was still a few minutes of gameplay), but I do know there's an audience for that. Personally, I think some checkpoints in the form of doors that close when you pass certain points to keep you from falling *all* the way back down would have been nice and encouraged me to actually collect more stuff.

I did love that the player alien character had a little wobble whenever it started and stopped. I can't tell if that's physics based or just an animation, but either way it's super charming

I missed the force not going down and up so I hadn't to shoot at maximum force almost all the times xD but other that that amazing entry! Congratulations!

thanks so much for sharing, and congrats on your first ever jam!

Controls were pretty good and intuitive mechanics. Also, the music was nice and soothing. The level layout was a bit unforgiving, but if you were going for rage game - you nailed it. Great work!

got to about 10. The nicest thing is the arccing physics that make the character fly through the air. It would have been sooo fine if it wasn't falling through the floor back to the beginning so often. xD

i really loved that game! how i was always "come on i can do better!" hahaha music was nice, art was simple but nice too, i enjoyed playing this game.

however, i felt a bit not in ease with controls, since sometimes, i wanted to reduce the power of my jump, but once it's fully loaded you'll have to jump anyway. apart from that, i had a lot of fun, great entry!
