The Mage And The Assassins by LDJam user 202408
Description:
You have been ambushed by a group of assassins out of nowhere on your path. You are weak and outnumbered but you are a Mage capable of summoning ghosts from another realm to fight for you. You may not win this battle but you must collect enough Magic Minerals to build a portal and escape.

Noticed the game included support for several levels, but I was never able to go to the next level after the tutorial. Not sure if this is intended, or was I just so bad at the game or understood something wrong :D
Great game overall! Hope you had fun!

Better color coding of items, enemies, and friendly units could have helped a lot to keep the overview of everything that's going on.
@suksu thanks, I'll work on a post-jam version later to address any issues. any problem in particular?
@xazens thank you! I used a limited color palette so I had to rely on silhouettes to distinguish allies from enemies. I'll make sure to work on that
I don't know if it's intended or not but the summoning circle moved away from my cursor the further my mouse was from the middle of the screen.
Cool game overall, i switched between 2 phases to reach the end : "full minions army to destroy everything on my way" and "run alone like a coward to get magic herbs" ^^
(Loved the intro, too)
Graphism are perfect, the retro vibe of the music also perfect and the gameplay innovative. Nice job.
I also liked sprites of the characters. Engaging and fun to play
The sound was very loud for me.
Good job!
PS: Intro is the best
I liked how there was a heartbeat when you didnt have many lives, it was a good warning. And the mechanic of summoning felt pretty cool. I was often caught off guard with the enemies being the same colour as the things you summon which got me quite a few times.
Kudos on completing your entry!
This game really knows how to keep you on your tippy-toes, you never have even a millisecond to breathe and think about your next move, but since the controls all feel very natural, this leads to a seamless flow as soon as you understand the mechanics.
One thing I didn't understand is that the "ranged ghosts" seemed to only attack when they were really close to the enemies they were targeting, even though they did shoot projectiles. Or maybe I just didn't understand how they worked. It was also hard to distinguish between each kind of enemy and ghost, since they are all the same color. Having the 2 kinds of enemies and corresponding ghosts have matching colors could be a nice QOL change! I'd also like to have clearer feedback when one of my ghosts have died, or of how many I have on me, since they were very fragile and sometimes I would spawn one and they would immediately die without me realizing I wasn't protected.
Nevertheless, after quite a long time of clearing enemies and getting to all the portals, getting to the end is *gloriously* satisfying, which is my favorite part of hard games like this! The synth guitar solo at the end is a nice reward lol! Amazing job once again!!

Extremely fun game! The upping stakes when more enemies spawn in and it becoming more tactical about summon placement as time goes on made it feel very tense throughout! The resource management with heal/summon and the pattern matching when reaching a magic mineral also added a strategic level to it, I loved that. Art is super good, I love how polished everything looks! Writing has a lot of charm to it, the tutorial having some quips and the twist ending were great. And of course the music, the music is incredible in this, not just the aforementioned winning music, but also the one during the main game. Great job all around, very well done!
