Interstellar Highway Robbery by Corny
Crash your escape pod into ships, collect space dosh and try to survive as long as possible in this high-octane shooter!

The plan was simple - crash your escape pod into a ship, steal some stuff, shoot bad guys and leave...

What you forgot to account for was that crashing two space vehicles might destabilize their life support systems a tiny bit.

Get as much space dosh as you can before adversities ultimately end your joyride. How long can you endure?
The game ends when you get shot to death or the ship you're on decompresses.
I usually have longer descriptions for my games, but I seriously don't know what else to say this time around. This game is a sort of farewell to Game Maker Studio, as I'm planning to move on to Godot for my future endeavors. I barely managed to get this game out, but I'm extremely proud of what I managed to create. I hope you enjoy playing it at least half as much as I enjoyed making it!
CONTROLS
``` WASD - MOVE E - INTERACT MOUSE - LOOK AROUND LMB - SHOOT SHIFT - ACCELERATE (when piloting) CTRL - DECCELERATE (when piloting) SPACE - LOCK ON TARGET AND LAUNCH ESCAPE POD (when piloting)
```
Planned additions to the post-jam version: * Audio * Nicer title / game over screens * Upgrade boxes and upgrades * A way to spend your Space Dosh mid-run * More varied enemies * More environments
Known bugs: * Background ships from the main menu persist in the vast emptiness of space * Your ship isn't bound to the space highway (you can fly out as far as you'd like) * Entering a red ship sometimes leaves you stuck inside a crate

I'll see what I can do to make sure nobody else has these kinds of problems. Thanks a lot for playing by the way!
EDIT: turns out that's just how Game Maker compresses larger games to fit in a standalone .exe, go figure
The only reason I stopped playing was the lack of sound.
But if you release a post-jam version with all that, I will gladly play it!
Awesome job !
@badpiggy The map idea is actually something I thought about - I didn't have enough time to add it, though. Still, it's on the to-do list as well!
A version with temporary minimal SFX as well as some minor tweaks (like removing the one crate you can get stuck inside in the green ship) will be coming in a day or two, separate from the on-time version ofc!
One thing that could improve - the fonts aren't very recognisable and easy to parse. Also, you sometimes get spawned inside a crate or outside the ship.
Even though it has been said before, I agree that the lack of sound is sad. Though that's really the only thing I didn't like... Great work !
I wish there was some sick soundtrack to back it up. But hey you can add it post-jam!
I was streaming my playthrough of some games and made a recording of it. I hope it will be helpful for you to see a first-time player's perspective of your game: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=88rtTOXawsw
I'm starting to play your game at 39:52
Only issues were the lack of audio, and that the fonts are a bit hard to read/instructions disappear too quickly.
Great work!
Like someone else said, it's not so much an exploration game, as it is an adrenaline run. Once I decided to ignore SD and just go for max number of ships in a run, that's when the game got a little more interesting, and the theme became a little more present.
My strategy became find the command module, killing everything in my path, and then go back and loot until say 30s left. I would have really liked for the blue crates to provide me with an extra 30s of oxygen.
Even though the theme is unstable and all... would have been nice to have a rest area, a moment of stability, like as soon as you board a new ship, you are in a safe room, and once you open the door the oxygen starts depleting.

And all that as a solo Compo game?
*Martial arts bow*
Good god! Skimming through your other entries, this one reigns SUPREME among graphics! *Perfect* send-off for GameMaker Studio 1.4, unlike my disaster of an entry.
Game loop is also pretty good, though I feel it's a little barren.
As other people have said, there's no audio in the original build; but in the revised version, the audio is *WAY* too quiet! I had to turn my my volume to **90%** to even barely hear the sound! Normally things are alright at ~16-20%.
There's not too much to say here, this game is AMAZING, and you should give yourself a REAL pat on the back for this one! Bravo, man!
