Incredible! This is the first game in LD54 that I've rated all 5's! I was hooked from the start, and I've rarely seen such a unique and interesting traversal mechanic. Feels a bit like the first time I tried to wrap my head around Portal. You guys need to develop this into a full game and put it on Steam!

This is incredibly creative! 10/5 Innovation. I've never seen anything like this gameplay before. Great puzzles, clever mechanic, solid writing for a jam game. "Rigged with High-Expansives" took me a second to get :)

The only issue I ran into is that it gave me a bit of a headache playing it! I think it was something about the blurry graphics, it felt like my eyes were always trying to re-focus.

Overall, amazing entry! Well done!

You guys seem to have a real talent for making weird and wonderful games. Such a strange mechanic but it works so well here! I feel like a lot more could be done by adding some augmenting mechanics. This is definitely full-release worthy if you explore the puzzle design potential some more. Fantastic work!

Incredible, so well done. Puzzles were so inventive, like "what-if-portal-but-ludum-dare-and-stretching", I was genuinely excited to keep on playing right to the end. The plot payoff gave me a lot of joy :-) The music and audio was subtle in the best way.

What a great game! I love how much you explored the single mechanic, especially the informational use in the arrow level.

I also found all the elephant graffiti

Super fun innovative game! Best I've played up to now, I had a lot of fun with it and you had great humour and voice acting, well done! This could really stretch to a longer game :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

Stretchmancer is incredibly well made and super fun to play! The level of polish for a game jam is impressive too, with amazing sound effects and voice acting to add to an already fun experience. It wasn't a stretch for me to give this game 5 starts all round!

This game is incredibly innovative and creative. This is one of those games where I get excited trying to think about how it would have been implemented after I've played it. This core mechanic allows for so much creativity in the level and puzzle design and you really use it to its fullest here! The levels are incredibly interesting and fun to play through, and the audio really adds a ton to the experience.

My only complaint would be the camera snapping. When I tried to turn the camera with my mouse, it would suddenly jump harshly to the side. I'm assuming this is designed in order to make the 4-direction locked stretching easier to handle, but I think that some vector math to calculate which direction the hand should go would be less jarring to the player.

Outside of that one complaint, major props to the whole team, this game was absolutely incredibly and the scope of it just blows me out of the water. Great Job!

I am always impressed by what people are able to make in such a short time, and this game is certainly one of them. I played through the whole game because it was oddly compelling. It captured a lot of the gameplay feel that portal had, but with an overall setting feel similar to Star Fox. Great combination and I think you could really have a lot to go on here if you wanted to make something larger out of it.

Awesome work! Super creative mechanic, and managed to use it in a bunch of non-trivial, non-repetitive ways. Glad I ran across this one on the games list!

Thanks for the feedback so far everyone. We're so chuffed people are enjoying it!

@blazejmg917 I'm not aware of any camera snapping. The game should play like the video above your comment. Perhaps you had the mouse sensitivity high (you can change this in the settings by pressing enter)? Would be eager to solve the bug if there is one.
Blazejmg917
05. Oct 2023 · 14:17 UTC
@choo I've played it again on a different computer and didn't run into the same issue, so it's possible that it may have been something weird on my end causing it. I don't think it would have been a sensitivity issue but in case you'd like a more descriptive report on the bug I was previously having, whenever i'd turn my camera to the side roughly 60 degrees it would snap another 30-ish degrees in that same direction.

But regardless, I think you have a fantastic game here! And if nobody else is commenting on the issue, I think you're likely safe to assume it was just my mouse or computer bugging out haha

Math is everywhere. Interesting technology under this cool project (thank you for the post-mortem article). Controls work well as expected and the main gameplay is clever. The retro aesthetic is gorgeous. Pictures and dialogs in-game remind me StarFox game. It can be improved with more time I guess. I notice a little bug with the camera along the walls (reduce the Clipping Planes Near Camera value). Really you made a solid entry. Well done. Thank you for this strange experience. Team I wish you the best ++

The only downside is how short it is. I honestly wish there were more levels to it.

Holy shit what a game mechanic! Flawless execution, and you even got VA lines in there. I really didn't want to get in that ship and I wanted like 20 more floors in the prison to make my way through. Fantastic entry!

Very nice! The visuals and gameplay really evoke the era you're going for, and the axis-stretching gameplay has a lot of potential. I'm glad Jam and Compo games don't compete with each other in Innovation!

A few very minor points:
- The text didn't display for me in a couple of places; not a problem, since the voices were very clear and crisp.
- It's possible to break the dialogue sequence on level 4 if you take the secret path early, then come back - but you probably already know about that.
- There's a Source Code link on the LD page, but it doesn't seem to link to any source code?

But again these are just tiny things; overall this is a very fun and well-made entry, I hope it does well!

What a ride. I once thought it would be cool to have a game that distorted space. This game turned my imagination into a reality. Thank you for the experience, I loved it!

Hm, what feedback can I give....

Perhaps it would be interesting if there was more jump or something. I felt like I fall down so quickly, it would be cool to have more jump-stretch puzzles, especially climbing back up felt so tedious to me (maybe thats okay, not sure). The graphics seems to do the job, but it would be interesting to see what it could be if you guys end up developing it more. Oh and the puzzles were clever, every time I was solving a new problem and think in different ways.

Well done guys!

Thanks for all the lovely thoughts and feedback everyone!

@tjm 1) Yes we have an issue with fullscreen making text disappear (don't know why!) 2) Ha ha, good point! 3) Well spotted, at least we can fix that one easily - just fixed :)

Incredibly polished!!! The dialogues, movement, the mechanic, the audio - it all fits perfectly! Aaaand.. when you fall into a dark abyss... oh my! I love the falling sound (reminds me of one very old game, an FPS...). And the whole gameplay gets you into a flow state : )) All thumbs up!

Still, I have only one question - and only one thing bothered me: should the resolution be that low? Was it intentional or something with performance or rendering concern? I think a bit more crisper reso would make for even greater experience! Maybe I am wrong? Everything but this: amazing entry! Congrats! :v:

Really cool mechanic and the puzzle design is very polished for a jam.
My only complaint is that due to the color palette/low res, the ledges can blend in with the walls. On one of the levels, I had solved the puzzle but I didn't understand where to go since I couldn't see the ledge.
Sound is great and fits the retro vibes. Story is hilarious. Overall a very polished entry.

Thanks for all the lovely comments everyone! Spread the word if you enjoy our game! Maybe we WILL make a longer version

@johnnysix sorry some of the jumps are tricky! The streamer video in comments above at 12:53 will show you how to do it! ("remember to stretch, chief!")

@aweskybear good question about the resolution. We did it entirely to give it "a look", which we liked! But some players have had issues with it, so it should definitely be optional in future versions.

Ok this was amazing. Brilliant concept, perfect execution, very funny dialogues with great voice acting and an unexpected twist. I loved every second of it. Oh and the squashed message was a brilliant idea, it made me feel very clever :)
The only thing I think could be done a bit better is the graphics, not because it could be done better, but because it could be done differently. The chosen art style is very well made, but imho in a game where you stretch everything, perhaps a higher resolution (but still low poly) flat color style might work better (I don't know if I explained it well, something that scales well to achieve something closer to vectorial rather than raster graphics). The aliasing here is a bit aggressive and the texture stretch doesn't always look great. Everyhting else is top notch. This is definitely one of, if not the best game I tried in this jam. I'd love to play an extended version of this, please keep working on it.

I was impressed, I saw this game at the jam but somehow I didn't think it was what it is and ended up not testing it. I think these incredible things really emerge during jams, people end up reinventing themselves, this is so innovative, it's enough to impress anyone. Imagine this with the updated graphics and impressive ambient sound. It really deserves the place it is.

This game was absolutely amazing, you should be really proud of what you created! I took a lot of inspiration from it for the latest Ludum Dare.
I love how the theme is just oozing from all over the game - the gameplay, the lore & the puns. Claustrophobia vs Agoraphobia, just brilliant!
Also, the subtle cues as to how your player character look!
