Norton by Sozey

You're Norton, the last chance to save this computer. Norton's job is to keep the system from collapsing from overload. Norton, being a cute little antivirus, has to protect the computer from the vicious worms and trojan horses, and unveil the cause of this infestation.
You will have to know when to fight and when to retreat, because your weight is not your friend, and can lead to a rather unstable experience.
Oh, and keep in mind you might get a surprise when attacking your enemies.

Tips: - If a platform collapses and keeps you from progressing, try using a fan to glide further! - If you're really stuck and no fan can help you, you can always restart using the escape button. - If the graphics are too demanding, you can turn off the most demanding effects from the in-game menu. - Platforms glow depending on the current weight on them. If they start shaking, run! - If a platform doesn't start glowing when you step on it, it's not because you lost weight (sorry), but because it's a sturdy one that won't collapse no matter what. Cherish those!

Controls: - WASD to move - E to interact - Space to jump and glide - Left mouse button to attack - Escape to open the in-game menu

(Edit: Hotfixed interactables getting disabled, navmesh generation bugged, no game audio and wrong menu showing on death, sorry about that :grimacing:)
Tools used: - Engine: Unity 2023.2 (HDRP) - Editor: Visual Studio 2022 - Modeling and animation: Blender - 2D Graphics: GIMP - SFX: Audacity (and my mouth) - Music: Magix Music Maker
Cut features: - Melee attack - Kamikaze enemy type - Save/Load platforms states - Main menu - ~~Playtesting more than 15 minutes before the deadline~~

@caoker Thank you for the feedback! The integration of the theme could definitely have been clearer, space is limited on each platform and they'll collapse when it goes above a certain weight, but I had to make some platforms unbreakable to keep the game from getting into a blocked state.
I had issues with noticing edges of the platforms.
@mozokevgen Thank you! And yeah I agree that the dark colors don't help with seeing the edges, that could definitely be improved
It's sometimes hard to keep your bearings during the jumping phase.
Just couple of small things that came to mind:
1. When gliding it is a bit difficult to see where one is in relation to the ground, shadow helps when closer to ground though.
2. I feel like the effect on the platform as the weight increases could be a bit more subtle, currently when the platform has lots of enemies it can be quite difficult to see what is going on especially with the added shaking.
Anyways, well done!
the pause menu unfortunately got stuck for me when i died to the boss the first time but overall great job!
I feel like it's really hard to make precise jumps, that could be caused by the camera keeping the player in the middle of the screen, even in the air
Also, i feel like the shooting could be clearer. You don't really see the enemies die, it's hidden by the orange trail, and i was wondering everytime if i kill them all or if there are still up
But these are details, solid entry overall
I did have a hard time with the isometric platforming, though: I felt that the camera was slightly too zoomed in (I had to perform blind jumps on multiple occasions because I couldn't see the target platform), falling down returning you to the last save instead of the last platform you stood on felt a bit too punishing, and while the shadow below you when above platforms was greatly appreciated, it didn't appear when you were above the air (most of the time) and was slightly too hard to see even above platforms. Still, isometric platforming is hard to get right even for complete games, so it was totally fine for a Compo one :)
Nevertheless, I still had fun with it, and it was obvious that most of your time was dedicated to the graphics & mood anyway. Overall, incredible entry!
(One final bug report: the music doesn't loop.)
Here's the VOD on YouTube to watch the gameplay, just skip to your chapter on the video!

@scolondev It's possible you got soft locked, I think the last opened path can't be accessed even by jumping with a fan in certain conditions! Sorry about that, and I hope you still had some fun with the game!
@frogman Wow thank you so much for the kind words! The final boss isn't nearly as polished as I had wished and you often have to restart if you lose there, I unfortunately ran out of time right on that part. As for the music looping, I copy pasted one of the audio sources I had in the scene and forgot to tick the looping option :face_palm: I really appreciate the detailled feedback and the words of encouragement!
@krassenstein Thanks! It was great fun to see you play it and get some live feedback! I had a great time hanging out on the stream and got to see some awesome games being played. Best of luck for the last week of your kickstarter campaign!
Looking forward to trying all of you guys' games!
Nice music as well even though at some point it just... stops lol. The sound effects were cool too.
Didn't quite get what to do at first, and I managed to softlock myself 2 times lmao. I even killed the boss without knowing at first for some reason it seems ? Idk.
The gameplay is nice as well, although I had a bit of problem with the controls, and especially the location of the character on the platform heavy parts.
I really like the trojan with the bugs inside, it was a neat design, and the boss was cool too although a bit too easy for me.
Once you know where to go, it's fast enough to complete the game, probably under 2 minutes, which is nice if you get softlocked, since you can just skim through the ennemies. I kinda wish they respawned when you died without saving, but it's fine like that especially if you're stuck with them lol. I REALLY wish the falling platforms respawned tho, it was hard to know where to go sometimes, and sometimes even impossible (I think doing the Wifi second softlocked me, not sure tho.
Nice fan/glider mechanic as well.
Overall a really nice game, veeeery impressive especially for a COMPO !
