I only had 2 small issues, i thing the player decelerates a bit to fast, and a bit of a background music would make it so much more immersive.
But a really fun game.
I thought that on one hand the screen started to fade a bit too soon when you were running out of oxygen, on the other hand, I never made it back to the ship once it started fading on me, so it was probably fair, heh.
I love reference to Outer Wilds <3
Good job :) !
Congrats !
It felt a little hard to control, but I believe the real issue was the camera position -- the character obstructs the camera, so I had to turn the camera to be able to see my goal and ended up not going exactly where I wanted.
I eventually died when I could see no oxygen nearby :') Good job!
[Edit] One more thing: I think there's no way to let go of something you already picked up, that may cause problems for the player if he mistakenly gets fuel instead of oxygen as I've done just now hehe.
I like the concept and the gameplay, after I learnt not to accelerate for very long in any given direction not to zoom away to certain death. I think I reached the end (no more yellow seams were appearing and the ship stopped) but nothing happened and eventually the reserves ran out. Controls felt a bit complicated and I think I would've just preferred to have one acceleration button that made me go in the camera's direction. Had a lot of fun mastering the right amount of momentum!
**Edit:** I've now rated after you turned it on C:
Died once trying to figure out what to do... but it was fun learning the space physics and going fast to collect the things. Would have been nice to just be able to slam into them to collect, as using a sword attack a bit slow feeling... but fun!
That said, I found it a little too hard to navigate to the O2 and use it. I do like the concept of keeping your ship refueled though!
If you don't mind leaving a rating, we would really appreciate it!!!!
I couldn't quite see how to win, as I had collected almost everything in the level and the ship just kept going, but I had a good time anyway.
Also, I'm impressed that you made the 3D engine!
Graphics are pretty cool and sound effects too, maybe some ambient background music/sound would be great, but again, it's not easy to do everything in one weekend.
PS: My wife was passing by and said "Hey, that looks like that space game you play... No Man Sky!"
So that's pretty cool aint it? :D
* Gameplay was some of the most engaging that I've experienced in this jam. Constantly needing to manage resources, all while trying not to suffocate, made for a lot of tight and entertaining situations. Especially near the end, needing to manage fuel / oxygen for the long stretch where you aren't given any added an element of planning.
* Visuals were some of the most consistent. I especially liked how you included graphics options; very innovative considering the 3 day time stretch.
Cons:
* Including the sword initially made the game's purpose unclear; it conflicted with me being told that LClick was the grab control. I appreciate its charm, though, so it might work better as an "idle animation" of sorts; either that, or having enemies you need to kill.
* The inertia felt a little unmanageable at times. I found, once I was headed in a specific direction, that it was very hard to suddenly flick the camera to change direction; I often continued moving along my original path, regardless of what I had to say about it.
Bugs:
* Boat teleports back to its starting position after you win a round.
This game is overall among my favorites that I've played on this site; I felt constantly pressured for time, and its visuals gave it quite a lot of charm. I could see this taking off post-jam if the concept was expanded on; maybe having the boat land at certain destinations, which in & of themselves have sub-tasks? Either way, very solid presentation, and a lot of future promise.
The game itself is quite humorous. I've managed to beat it with negative O2 in my ship. Also, the choice of assets is very interesting. (Spaceboat is great) :D
