made by LDJam user 285924 for Ludum Dare 51 (JAM)

You play for a Mage and you have to survive on Mage Arena. You get level up every 10 seconds on the Arena. Each level you get points which you can spend to improve your attributes: intellect, stamina, stringth and agility. Killing other mages you earn coins which you can spend to buy new spells. You can teleport between you secret room and the Arena. You secret room is safe and regenerate your health.

This is a neat game! It has some cool depth with spells and stat points - a lot more than you would expect from a jam game.

I found the teleporting ability a bit broken though. You can easily teleport out of any dangerous situation to safety. It can be easily abused as a hit-and-run strategy to make the game quite easy. Maybe teleporting should only be possible from the portals or it should have a cooldown?

But overall, a very solid entry. Great work!

Almost got to 30 coins! Didn't pay attention to the healthbar :'(
Overall felt like a weird singleplayer .IO game, kinda better than first expected when you see a wall of controls.
Nice job!

It took me some time to understand it, but overall it was nice to play! Really good job for this short time!

Very nice game! The controls are easy to use and the level system keeps the game exciting. I just wished I would have a short period of invulnerable time after going back to the arena. There were some times I got hit immediately after reentering :D Overall well done!

@nash Thanks for your feedback. Actually teleport works in the right way :) I thought it's a good ability to avoid dangerous situations but it does't make the game easier. When you teleport back to the Arena you can get into even worse situation.

@makar-ss Thanks for the answer! With teleporting being "broken" I meant broken balance-wise. It surely works just as it is intended! And I can also see why it was designed that way. The game obviously rewards you for staying in the arena so there is a small drawback when teleporting out. I personally still found it very powerful. Even if you may end up in a worse position, you can instantly teleport out and rinse and repeat until you find a safe spot again.

But it is just an opinion from one player. We will surely see a lot of different opinions here during the jam!

@nash I agree, maybe it's not a best solution but it was quite easy to make :) I was thinking to make the teleporting as a regular spell with cooldown and so on but I didnt finish spell system as I planned.

Very nice mood. I am a sucker for wizards and spells, so you got me there. I think it is a very solid entry for a 3-day project. Kinda hard to get started though, It is somewhat time consuming to get 30 coins, but I still had a lot of fun!

I couldn't figure out how to shoot fireballs at will, it fel like it was completely random when it registers the key press for the fireball.
At the begining the diffrent HUDs on top of each other gave me an headache and I needed to restart and read the controls multiple times so that I could finally close all of the different HUDs.
I couldn't figure out how to earn more money, though the level system was more intuitive (every 10 seconds).
It should have been told somewhere when you get new levels and how to get money.

If the fireball shooting had some logic I could understand and some other mechanics were explained, I could imagine myself playing it longer than what I did now.

Nice game!

I loved seeing all those mages run around, the hectic feeling of the arena is cool, even if the best strategy I found was to hide close to the walls haha. The upgrade system works well, maybe everything is a bit too expensive and grindy though.

Great job for a solo game!

Lots of fun blasting away at other wizards in the arena. The game got a bit grindy at the end though, I died after getting lazy and couldn't be bothered to replay from the beginning again.

Nice concept. I'm kinda sad that there's not any customizability to the spells, but it's a jam after all. I can see a lot of potential here

Very nice game overall with nice graphics and a surprising amount of features and mechanics, although maybe a bit too slow paced for a game jam game. It takes quite a while to get going and get a few upgrades and it's fairly easy to die when you don't pay attention and you have to start over.

Very interesting gameplay loop! Teleporting to a safe room at any time to escape death is a suprisingly interesting mechanic. Neat entry!

Got one-shot couple times because of the triple casted spell  Guess I needed more health upgrades. I can see myself playing more of this with more content. Congrats on your second LD!

I was surprised by the amount of depth and strategy there is in this simple looking game. I was surprised by the utter chaos that ensued the first time I teleported into the arena, and I got pretty salty at just how many kills the AI stole that first game. Enjoyed the gameplay very much, and would love to see what this would be like with sounds of all the wizards casting all the time.
