10 Second Apocalypse by LDJam user 239827

[raw]
made by LDJam user 239827 for Ludum Dare 51 (COMPO)

My first attempt at a gamejam. The idea was to make a small survival game which, every 10 seconds, becomes more difficult. I probably underestemated the amount of work making it feel (imo) unfinished in most ways.

Controls: - WASD to move - Left click on nearby resources to harvest them - Left click to attack

Great result for a first jam entry!
It was a bit too difficult for me, the enemies came rushing long before I had any resources.
The corruption tentacles are really neat, cool animation!

Not sure what's going on, but the embedded version at the top shows up as just a white rectangle. The standalone version works fine though.

The web version seems to be missing or broken. I like your idea, though! And biting more than you can chew in a 24 hour game jame... been there.

Wow, now that's overscoped.

Too bad you don't have time to gather resources before the enemies come rushing at you, I would have loved to try the crafting system.

I don't know if it's just me, but there doesn't appear to be any sound in the standalone category. You may want to opt out of Audio.

would love to play this idea, but web browser version is broken for me unfortunately. well done on your first jam entry and super well done for submitting on time !! that's a skill/ experience you can take away from it in and of itself ha!
Happy to return if the game gets fixed for a play through and a rating :))

A really great idea - and the 'gets worse' effects are really well implemented! Just too difficult for me - I did manage to get a little crafting, but once the enemies start to pile on, it seems unlikely I could dispatch them fast enough to get any more resources.
But it is clear an astonishing amount of work went into this! For that you should be very proud. Really loved all the different enemy types - especially the corrupted tentacles.

Hey, for a first game jam you did very well! Compo is a tough category! You have some great ideas though, and I particularly liked the tentacles. Good work and I look forward to seeing more entries from you in the future!

Nice game! It reminds me a bit of Don't Starve :-) It's a bit hard though. My record is 9 Kills, 01:11,51

It is indeed difficult, the enemies accumulate quickly, and on my first run I was immediately ambushed by ghosts. Good ideas, however!

There was alot here for your first game jam. I definitely have made games where I had so many ideas and I used all the time to implement them and not enough time to actually test them. I think there was not enough downtime to actually harvest and interact with the crafting, but I think if there were cooldown waves in between it would work out really well. Great job!

Wow, I'm amazed by the number of features and the enemy variety. It may have actually been pretty fun if I only had a little more time to gather resources and get things going before the world transformed into an impassable sea of death and monsters. I supposed my advice for next time would be to scale back the scope, and focus more on getting your product polished and ready to go, rather than trying to deliver the world.

Cool crafting system and dynamic world, but it descends into madness pretty quickly. I see a lot of potential in an expanded version of this with more depth

Great job for a game jam entry! I am amazed at how much you managed to fit in for such a tight time limit. It can always be tough to not bite off too much for a jam game. I can't wait to see what you do next time.

Nice work! I like the idea of balancing crafting and killing enemies as more and more chaotic things happen. I know you were rushed, but a little bit of balancing goes a long way: it was almost impossible to do any mining/harvesting after the first two or three waves of enemies; maybe slowing down enemy spawn rates would have made it better (not the rate at which you introduce new enemies, necessarily, just the number that spawn). Still, it's certainly better than my first jam game! Great start!
