Can you repair the generator before the alien lifeform hunts you down and devours you?

It Searches in the Darkness

An alien lifeform stalks the corridors of the ship. It listens for the noise you make when you are near it, and it will charge at you ravenously if you're spotted. Fortunately for you, light causes the creature pain. If only you could keep the power on for longer than 10 seconds!

Stalk through the ship, find the missing parts to fix the generator, and avoid the alien in the darkness.

How to Play

  • Find, pickup, and return parts to the generator to repair it.
  • Power toggles every 10s.
  • Avoid the hunting Alien.
  • The alien lifeform is stunned when the power is on.
  • Mouse click to crouch and sneak.
  • Numerals to adjust mouse sensitivity (1 lower - 9 higher).
  • Left Shift to capture or release mouse.
  • Rotate with Mouse.
  • Arrows or WASD to move.

Windows Build

This version compiled post-compo, the game, however is the same. The 3D Audio was a part of the Compo build, I just learned late that webGL builds don't process the audio through Unity the same way. There is an added menu screen so that you can exit the game without pressing Alt+F4, which has a sensitivity slider I was working on, but no mechanics or any other game have been added post-compo. Just ignore that convenient page if you try the Windows build.

I did it! I fixed the ship! This was a job very well done. I love the graphics. The lighting really created a creepy mood. I think this was a really ambitious project making something that huge. Did you model and lay out the entire level yourself? Thats absolutely insane that you made this for a compo. I think this game would have benefited greatly from some creepy moody sound playing, but thats already asking a lot from a very well done game. Good job!

@jag I did model and lay out the entire level. The game was built with 3d audio, but the webGL builds from Unity don't support that (Which I learned as I was compiling at the end), so everyone is going to miss out on that. Thanks for checking it out!

@arkinrev you should upload a desktop version!

Ayy, I won! The atmosphere can get pretty spooky at times, but I think I was lucky enough (or unlucky enough) to only see the monster a few times. When I did see him crossing a hallway in the dark, it was pretty spooky, but I just wish it happened more often. I don't know if I was confusing the AI by being super lost myself, or if the AI was just following a mostly predefined patrol path, but I think if the AI were a bit improved, it would've made the game way more enjoyable. Nice job overall!

@vykri The AI will wander if you are not near, and if it hears you, it will begin searching more rapidly (the noise bubbles around you) If it sees you (direct line of sight) it will chase you much more rapidly. It's a large ship, so when you do encounter it, the alien can be startling. Thanks for trying it!

Impressive level size. Was a bit on the easy side for me, only saw the monster once and easily avoided it. Agree with @arkinrev that you should do a desktop build as audio would help with the atmosphere a lot.

@simplepotential Thanks for trying!

@unpronounceable Thank you, and yes, I was erring on the side of easy. Considered adding more range to his search, or adding more aliens. The parts and alien position are randomized, and there are easier layouts than others.

@jag @unpronounceable There is a Windows build linked now which includes the environmental audio that I set up during the Compo.

Great atmosphere!

The game was a bit too slow for me to finish, though...

_Also I kept getting lost, but that's my fault, I think..._

This is a solid entry. The level is massive (I wasn't expecting it). Well done, thanks for sharing!

@woahitsjeff Yeah, it the level was some frantic copy and paste work with my limited art assets. Thanks for checking it out!

Good mood. The alien looked really good. Would benefit from a map maybe? I didn't really know where I was or where the generator was. I liked the built in settings (mouse sensitivity etc.) although, you normally don't want to teach the player how to play with a wall of text but alas, it is 48 hours. The models are impressive for being made in 48 hours! Great entry!

Sounds like the alien has a serious case of indigestion.

In all honesty though, it would be nice to have some indication of where the generator room is, especially when every room and corridor starts to look exactly the same.

Great entry, and impressive what you got done by yourself! I found the level design to be too much of the same everywhere and I got turned around and had a really hard time developing a spatial map in my head. I could see this being a fun game if you kept going after the jam  keep on making games!

@coatline The map as an added feature might have been OK, but having roamed around it as much as I have, I still get a little turned around without it, which feels nice to still be surprised.

@infinitycore @frozenfire92 I think a directional indicator could have helped point you back to the generator. As for the sameness: the corridors should get you a little lost, and the trick to knowing where you are is knowing the function of the rooms. I had planned on changing the color of the central band around the ship walls to help with the sectioning, just didn't get there.

Thanks for trying it out!

Interesting "Alien"-the-movie-like atmosphere! Nice experience!

I wasn't what sure the parts looked like to even recognize them if i found them so I ended up just wandering around for a few minutes lost. I liked the atmosphere of the game, it really felt ominous and foreboding.

Eventually I found the monster so I ran up to it to end the game.

@jadedresearcher That's one way to do it! The parts look like the glowing parts at the start, just less intense of a glow. Thanks for checking it out!

The game looks very polished! Sometimes the lights can get a bit too bright. I rarely encountered the alien, and it's a bit slow. Overall pretty decent

Neat idea and really nice presentation. I did struggle with some really wild dips in framerate while turning, and it seemed to affect the turn speed. More than once, I tried to turn around a corner and ended up turning a whole 360.

A pretty game with a huge level to get lost in. The monster is really cute and cuddly.

I had some problems with the mouse controls until I read that I actually have to press shift to capture it. Most games do this kind of thing automatically.

Really well done on the atmosphere of the game, it worked well. I had a hard time navigating around, the camera seemed to be a bit locked but maybe I was doing it wrong. Also I read to watch for the alien and was immediately scared, and I noped out really quickly when aliens showed up xD Overall nice job!
