10 seconds to Spock you by Shigor

[raw]
made by Shigor for Ludum Dare 51 (COMPO)

A stupid theme deserves a stupid game. On the other hand it means I've spent just about 8 hours making this action version of Rock and Paper and Scissors / Rock and Paper and Scissors and Lizard and Spock. screen.png

Sice LD site now doesn't show links for some reasons, if webbuild uploaded directly to LD doesn't work, you can find game here: https://shigor.itch.io/ld51-10-seconds-to-spock-you

Missed some music or sound effects. But fun to play and easy to undestand.

could use music, reach seems a tad bit long

Feels like the character moves too slowly compared to the other entities. You can chase something for the full 10s only to have it turn into your predator and turn around and quickly eat you. Made the gameplay a bit too slow to be enjoyable. Adding the lizard and spock was a nice touch though, as it gives you a lot more to think about.

I liked the game! With a bit of tactics (keeping track of the timer and not going for "kills" if it was about to change) I managed to get quite a few points. One thing that felt a bit unfair was the fact that I could get "killed" while in my "killing" animation and thus unable to move or dodge. Well done!

Nice idea, liked the lizard-spock extension :) Some feedback points: I would have liked having another way of interacting. Like a speed boost or some kind of manual shuffle. The distance to "enemies" felt quite huge at times so nothing happened over 1-2 shuffles. Lastly as someone mentioned background music of sfx would have been nice.

I will say it is a okay little game, but it also feels like a game you have made in 8 hours.

This is a fun concept, and I think some post-LD time (altho it doesn't sound like you're super interested lol) would go a long way for touching it up. There were two different games where I started it and before I could even tell what was going on, I was surrounded by three of the type that kill me and I was unable to do anything about it. Then every time I finally did catch something I could defeat, an opposing type was right on my trail so I'd die as I was defeating the other one. And at one point I was a pair of scissors for a loooooong time lol. But I really genuinely love the theme (and how you can make it more/less complex with classic RPS or RPSLS). ESPECIALLY in 8 hours, this is awesome!

Nice idea to use rock, paper, scissors as your main mechanic! The game felt a bit dragging after a while, since every character's speed is quite close to each other, and you often run after each other for a long time.
But other than that, nice game. I particularly like the textbook background, that gave the whole game a feeling of being a game made up in free time in school. :D

Very cool idea for this theme :-) However as the others already said, the player is too slow and some sound would be great.

However I very much liked the graphics!
Well done.

Not bad for 8 hours, and having the arrows pointing in the direction of the closest target was a nice touch!

I am conflicted about the movement speed. It felt slow with the 10 second limit to catch an enemy but it did mean a lot of "I've almost caught you" then "No! now your chasing me". Which I think made it more fun. Sometimes the enemies where a bit sparsely populated.

Simple but interesting idea, good job!
Would have loved some better indicators of when you're about to transform.

Cute game with a cool premise. I wish the player moved a bit faster so that catching and escaping would be easier.
