Hello everyone!

Welcome in my LD#50 (:birthday:) entry : Card O''Clock.

In this simple (yet complex) game, your goal is to delay the Timer as much as possible. If (When, actually) it reaches 0, it's Game Over.

Shop.png

Features

  • Delay the inevitable in this card game where the Time is the main ressource.
  • Deck building mechanics.
  • Tutorial to help you understand the core mechanics.
  • Create powerful combos that can even make a Malus card useful!
  • A lot of different strategies.

Controls

  • You only need a mouse.

A such original approach of the theme! Gameplay has a great depth which allows nice strategies :thinking:

All fit well together: graphics / sounds are minimalist, color palette is well chosen and animations are elegant and smooth. I just felt the tutorial a bit too long at first, but felt afterward that it was a necessity :timer:

Great entry, well done! :card_box:

Once again, a great game! I like your minimalistic style and the idea is amazing.
You made a nice card game und to use time to play with is so cool. The tutorial is a bit long bit it is necessary for the game and then to play on your on was fun.
You make impressive games every jam, it is cool to see the process. Keep it up.

A great take on the theme. But most of all the gameplay is really impressive, it's really well thought and works really well. Everything is polished, and the tutorial is the cherry on the cake.
I don't have a lot of thing to say about this entry, it's just a great game.
Well done!

Impressive. Held my breath at the end of my run when everything was red on the board, haha.
A simple concept polished to perfection and very well explained.
Great job on this! :sparkles:!

Really addicting and visually pleasing. Fits the theme quite nicely. Honestly, it's something I'd play to kill some free time (hahaha get it?! lmfaooo). Anyway, here's the score I got on my first go:

Very well thought out, and I love the in depth tutorial! Also excellent take on the theme. Overall, really good game, though I wasn't very good at it. I thought making it to 2 minutes was hard, but it looks like other people really mastered this. Fun times.

This is such a fun (so addicting!) and well-executed game! The tutorial was perfect and everything was so polished (from the animations to the card balancing to the sound effects). I also like your very literal take on the theme :smiley: I got 6'44" on my first try, but definitely gonna try a few more times later!

16' 27'' 831 for me

Very cool game. Pretty original mechanics. I was impressed by the amount of polish, with solid audio cues and a tutorial to explain the mechanics. At the end I was overwhelmed by getting a bunch of Time Bleeds. I liked that a few different synergies are possible, like stacking bank vs accumulating passive effects or trying to delay or mitigate malus cards. "Clean" was probably my favorite card as it got rid of all of the annoying Dead Weights.

Some points of confusion for me:
- It took me a long time to figure out that the spinning circle icon means that an ability is passive.
- During the tutorial my first card shop had two cards with the word "Malus" before the tutorial had gotten to the part about explaining what Malus are.
- Bank having a max of 60 seconds surprised me the first time it happened
- One time I had no cards in deck or discard and I think it did not let me play cards from hand until there was something to draw. This was weird but I guess it's just an early-game edge case.
- A couple of times I was wondering how close I was to discard pile being shuffled. An indicator for number of cards in deck and discard would be nice. Also the shuffle animation was a bit long.

@gonzo13 @linus-szokody @angrybeard @jzucc12 @kronox @circle @boclow @ksimaster @theunusualart @boxedmeatrevolution Thank you so much for your kind words, it means a lot to me ❤️.

@henriforshort Wow, good job! 💪

@caeonosphere Idk if I'll do a post jam version. My main project take already too much time 😔.

@almost Thanks for the feedbacks.
For the spinning circle I agree, I had a hard time finding a good way to explain what it is.
For the tutorial, I didn't thought about removing those card, you're right!
Bank cap surprised you on a good way I hope 😅.
Yep, you can't play a card if the discard pile and the deck are empty. TBH, just between us, it's because of a mean bug so I decided it was going to be a feature.
The number of card indicator is a good idea! Yes the shuffle animation can become a bit long if you have many cards.

The simplicity and depths of the mechanics reminded me of Arcomage. Your game is a sort of "one-player Arcomage against the time".

Like many other people, it gave me this feeling of "just one more game". It's simple and efficient.

I like the fact that at some moments, we have to think rapidly, and at other moments, there is nothing to do except waiting for a slot to become free. It provokes continuous switches between stress and idle, which are emotionnaly fun.

I may be wrong, but I had the impression the cards "bank -> timer" and "timer -> bank" do not work, except during tutorial. When I put one of these cards, I expected the bank value to change (increase or decrease), but it does not happen.

Don't know if you remember me, but I raided you on twitch while you were creating this game. :-) .

Well, let's go, "just one more game".

Six minutes on the first try and enjoyed every second of the game. At the beginning I need to admit I worried with every step of the tutorial coming where will all this lead (and won't I start forgetting the rules from the beginning already?) But once the game starts, everything gets pretty clear. The ticking sound is very satisfying. Cool that it is exactly, and nothing more, what the game needs in the audio department. Visually clean and tidy, not sure about necessity of that post-processing, but great surprise overall.

Well done !
6"44 on first run, it's fluid, audio assets are nice and fit perfectly, visuals are simple but efficient.
Maybe the tutorial a bit long, most of cards are already self explaining.
I liked the difficulty balance, it's not easy to succeed having something with a real progressive (and not punishing) difficulty and you did it perfectly !
