The music was good too. Its a retro style game so retro sounds seem fitting. Maybe adding more modern synths may have been the icing on the cake!
Very well done!
But yeah, it's a wonderful game. This would have been an arcade classic back in the day. What I liked most was slowly figuring out the personalities of the different blobs, like the green ones that always avoid you, the red ones that chase you and the purple ones that float around. My go-to-strat near the end was to have a couple of shots inside at all times to wipe out enemies with the power of stochastic probability. Sound design and graphics were amazing as well, you really nailed that arcade feeling with those, bullet time when a shot gets close was such a nice touch. All in all, super good, great job!
In one hand I think it's great. Visuals are great, controls are simple, precise yet it manages to create a very interesting challenge. Also the slowdown when approaching a bullet is awesome and satisfying!
But on the other hand, I felt completly overwhelmed after one or two tries. I think your visual are great but maybe is it too much? I don't know. Overall I like almost everything independently but in its globality, I wasn't stuck to it.
Really great work no matter what, I felt you put hard work on your compo!
Only two things really bother me. First, there's no real telling when enemies will enter the loop, which can become annoying when there are a lot of enemies both inside and outside. The other issue was just that it can be difficult to tell which arrow key will go which direction depending on where you are. I felt that the controls on the outside of the loop are often reversed to what I'd expect, which confused me. I have no idea what the solution to that would actually be, though, and might be outside of the scope of a jam.
But generally, this is pretty easily one of the best jam games I've played!
gameplay feels polished and hits that sweetspot between really hard and "just one more game"
good job!
Still, probably my favourite game so far with amazing presentation. Well done
I think my only two issues have been mentioned in previous comments:
- I wish there was some sort of anticipation / indicator for when a blob would switch sides
- There are times where I wanted to go left, but went right (for example when I'm doing a full rotation counterclockwise on the inner loop, then I switch sides at the top, then want to move right, I still need to press left). It's definitely a tricky situation, because ideally if you are moving in a full rotation, you'd want to use the same button. Tough problem!
But overall, I really enjoyed it. Great work!
I wonder what it would feel like if you had multiple loops floating in space and sometimes they would overlap and you could jump between loops or something, but that might take away from the simple but powerful nature of it. I'll definitely be returning to this post jam to try and beat my high score.
I think a more ambient synth based soundtrack would really lock the entire mood.
It has a really good gameplay, it has simple mechanics and a lot of replaybility
The art is nice, it reminds me of old arcade games
The music fits with the instruments but the melody sound more like a kind of castle music, sort of, it gives that feeling, and the sounds fit as well too
The flipping mechanic can be abused at first, but later on where there are many enemies is kind of hard to do so, and the shape shifting inside of the level it's a really unique idea, it really makes you think about the shoots you are going to make inside because there may be a lot of enemies outside and if you get inside, you may die because of your own bullets
It's a pretty good game, and counting that it was made in a game jam, its just great!
Keep working and keep it souled!
