Didn't know you were participating in Ludum Dare.
I watched a few of your Youtube Videos recently and found them both very entertaining and informative.
Keep up the good work.
My only problem was that I sometimes couldn't revive the alien, and it didn't feel like there was anything I could do about it. Several times he got stuck on the hood of a car and carried out of the level, and once the paddles didn't work and he died anyway.
Great entry overall, very impressive for 48h!
But this implementation is great and also is of the more humorous games.
I love the art!
Good job!
Man, nice work. This one hits a coherent light-hearted vibe across all the elements and really comes together. The tune is boppin'. The art is cute, appealing, and clear. That crazy alien... I mean the gameplay fits right into the tone, what is that GUY DOING IS HE CRAZY!!!?!?!! And then *whamp* that sound effect when you get hit, oh my.
Controls were really solid, too. Are there discrete stops to the playfield that subtly facilitate standing exactly on the lines where cars won't hit you? If so nice flourish. Only thing gameplay-wise that was feelbad was when the alien got knocked off the screen and I had to attempt a blind ressucitation. That moment felt like it didn't fit into the whole experience.
Oh wait - one other small nit: given the game is played entirely on keyboard, I found myself wishing the keyboard could restart, instead of having to grasp for the mouse each time I lost.
So very nicely done: a classic arcade trope, then a small twist derived directly from the LD theme, executed on-point with art, sound, music, and gameplay. A very compo entry, well done.
(My wife was in the other room, and I guess I was laughing pretty loud, because she shouted "Someone made a good game!")
I like it a lot tho! I saw one of your posts in the feed during last weekend and I thought "I have to try this!" and it definitely wasn't the type of game I expected but it was VERY fun!!!
The graphics are on point and the music too!
GREAT JOB!
Thank you for your youtube video, and 10 minutes challenge: was a great inspiration for me in this Ludum Dare
Also I love the graphics, animations and how that poor creature gets knocked down by those physics, I have to laugh every time I have to revive this little idiot!
The only improvements I could think of would be a better glance at the crash site in the beginning (I hardly noticed it at first) and a label reminding you of the button to resucitate. Also the creature sometimes gets stuck at rocks and then dances around them weirdly. Or it gets thrown out of the screen which is sad to watch
By the way, great job on your Youtube videos, I love to watch them ever since I the algorithm your ten cars under my nose for the first time. Very inspiring, great content!
"AWDS to steer". Who writes WASD like that? 0_o
I came from your YouTube channel, but even knowing your job (from the videos, and they are very good by the way) I came with very low speciations... however, you did it! Very funny game.... make me want to go there and punch that alien in the face! =D
Love the novel taken on the frogger game. Like @dege said, when the alien is dragged off the screen prematurely by the car it feels a little unfair.
Maybe if he bounce back into the screen , so he doesn't go out of play would be cool.
The animation on the little paramedic is nice and snappy, and the variety of vehicles keeps things from feeling repetitive.
Thanks for giving inspiration too to other Dads who have to juggle the chores/ keeping the kids happy with the 48h compo haha.
First time playing I thought it was impossible to win because I had no control over the alien and the car immediately pushed him off screen.
After that it worked as intended, the alien landed somewhere where I could get to him.
Love the music and sound. Animation and graphics are good. Not sure if it was intentional or not, but the way the walk animation and music syncs it seemed as if the alien was dancing across the roads.
EDIT: Okay, I thought the character looked familiar. I just started following you on YouTube like two days ago!
Anyway, that issue with the alien being knocked off screen has happened to me many times, once when I was at 239 meters! I think you should fix that, maybe have physics turn off for a moment after the car has pushed the alien for a while, so he falls under the wheels?
I found some more glitches, If you don't walk at all, apparently the alien will continue past where cars are spawning at fall off the edge of the world. If you follow about a screen behind the alien I think he'll be safe from cars and you can sort of cheese the game.
Also I noticed if you walk south you fall off the world forever, and have to reset the game. I was thinking that this shows you're calculating gravity all the time, I think you can save resources by turning on gravity when you get hit but moving 2-dimensionally the rest of the time.
ps: i like the 10 min blender videos you make :D
