Farm Defense by Hexmith
Initial Idea
The player controls a farmer (not visible in-game) who needs to defend his family against waves of "alien" creatures. The game has two states: "Daylight" and "Night", described below:
During the “Daylight State” the player can choose to plant seeds on his farm, with growth time based on waves of enemies (i.e. turns), spending part of his/her coins (earned through planting and a small percentage of the corn leftover from the previous night) to increase his/her income. The player can also spend his coins on improvements to make his life easier during the main game loop, which takes place at the night time.
During the “Night State” the tower defense genre appears, with the player needing to defend the way to his farm (and family). To do this, he must spend his/her corns (which are acquired each time an enemy dies) to place different (upgradable) towers close to that path, so that they automatically attack the creatures that will come on each turn.
The player also has abilities (unlocked/purchased during the Daylight State) that can be used during the Night State of the game. Example: a tractor that goes on the opposite path of enemies (starting from the end of the path and going to the beginning) destroying all the creatures it touches until there (except for tougher/stronger enemies, whom this ability would just damage).
The planting system works as follows: during the Daylight State the player can enter a "planting mode" (named “Shop” in the game) to buy and plant seeds (with the coins he/she has). Each seed takes a different amount of time (measured in turns) to grow and have different buy/harvest values.
Missing Features
- Player abilities;
- Different tower types;
- Different tower levels/upgrades;
- More seeds (currently there are 3 types of seeds);
- Non-pixelgrammer art/sprites (heheh);
- The visual difference between the Daylight and Night States;
- Game balancing (towers, enemies, waves, and seeds).
Commands
While in the Title Screen
- Press "Space" to start the game.

While in the Daylight State
- Press “S” to enter the “Shop Mode” and “1”, “2” or “3” to select the desired seed;
- “Left (Mouse) Click” to plant the selected seed in the available soil tiles;
- “Right (Mouse) Click” on a grown seed to harvest (and automatically sell) it;
- Press “N” to start the next enemy wave.

While in the Night State
- Press “S” to enter the “Shop Mode” and “1” to select the “Basic Tower”;
- “Left (Mouse) Click” to build the selected tower in a non-path tile;
- "Right (Mouse) Click" on a tower to sell it.

Seeds
- 1) Chocolate -> Takes 5 turns to grow.
- 2) Peanut -> Takes 10 turns to grow.
- 3) Beer -> Takes 15 turns to grow.
Postscript
PS: I will keep working on this game until my initial idea is fully complete, leaving on my itch.io page both the Jam version and the updated version for download.
PSS: As soon as I translate the Trello board that I used (and will continue to use) for this game to English I'll also leave the link on my itch.io page for anyone that wants to check the roadmap.

The mechanics of the tower defense feel really nice, even with all of the commands being keyboard shortcuts. I think if you focus on adding some more tower/enemy variety and wave balance the nighttime phase could be a very solid TD!
The day phase of the game seems like it might be pretty disconnected from the night phase. I was a little bit confused when I didn't go back to daytime after the first phase and went back every 5 "turns" instead. I think there also needs to be some sort of connection between the corns in the nighttime and the money in the daytime, otherwise it's sort of like you're playing two separate games in parallel, which would interrupt my flow personally.
You drew swastikas for the crops, big no no.
have dancing unicorns to purify your game
If you want to receive a big ass feedback, just answer, i'll happily do it.
I'll go to sleep now...
Thanks for the feedback and kind words! And rest assured that I'm definitely going to finish it! Hehe

I know lol (about the theme part, haha). I forced it a bit using the "keep it alive" with just the "story", with your hp being your family back on the farm, but I wanted to keep the promise I've made to myself, as described in the game's itch.io page, hehe. Thanks for the comment btw!

I didn't realize that, I'm sorry... I did those crops with only 1 hour remaining, this WASN'T intentional. I'm going to prioritize finishing the remaining mechanics before starting the art but you can be sure that this will be changed before anything else for the next version. Again, I'm really sorry :disappointed:
Thank you for pointing me that, and I would love the big ass feedback, hehe.

Thank you!
That's exactly what I was going to do when the Jam finished LMAO! First the tower upgrades, then two new towers (I want some more later in development) and finally some enemies/waves improvements, hehe.
The game will have more connections between the two states in the future! As mentioned in the description, my idea is to use the farm and coins to get abilities (and possibly some towers improvements?) for the player to use during the night time, and a portion of your remaining corns will be converted into coins when every night ends, so be sure to plan your corn/coins amounts in future versions! Hehe
The idea is that the towers you built will remain there with their upgrades every night, but as soon as the night ends you will lose all your remaining corns, with some of them becoming coins as if you sold them at the beginning of the day, you know? Also, the 5 turns for each night were just for testing, this will be changed. Thanks for the feedback, friend!
---> PS.
I will be checking (and voting/commenting) some games this weekend, starting with you five. Thanks again for your time and comments! Hope y'all safe and sound.
