Button Runner by Nookington

[raw]
made by Nookington for Ludum Dare 45 (JAM)

Update: Version 2 comes with a few bug fixes (like the B/circle button on controllers quitting the game!) as well as some feel improvements and explosions. Explosions!

The new guy in town shows up. He's got nothing. No money. No skills. All he has is a dream. To run and jump farther than any controller head man before him. To score more points than any peripheral-cranium humanoid had thought possible before today.

Come up from nothing to set the high score! WASD and Arrow key controls. Some people say it controls better when they use both sets of keys, one with each hand. Should also have controller support. Make sure to extract both the .exe and the .pck from the zip file.

Very pretty game, love the aesthetics and I think the umbrella floating is super cute. It's also very well done

This was a fun game, with pleasant graphics and a nice soundtrack. The upgrade system had me engaged, but I would have liked the gameplay curve to be steeper, as I began to lose interest after a few runs. Some more diversity, increase in speed or earlier introduction of newer mechanics would have helped a bit more. Great work, thanks for the game :)

Very fun little platformer with an interesting grind. I wish the game would speed up a bit towards the middle so that it makes for a more challenging run. Great graphics, lovely controls. Overall an awesome little entry, great job!!

You have some really nice graphics and a great physics engine. I especially liked how you had to play once to get enough cash to even jump, I thought that was really clever. But can we talk about the controls? I know you say it's best controller with two hands, but in what world is jump mapped to the down arrow? And dashing forward with left? Seems like the controls should have been something like:

Press Up: Jump

Hold Up: Float (when falling)

Right: Dash

Space: Fire

It was very good! The artstyle is GREAT and the gameplay addictive. Key bindings were a bit awkward, maybe letting the player choose them would be a good idea. I'm not sure what the autofire does, since it doesn't automatically fire xD Also fireballs aren't really crucial to the gameplay, but I guess it's fun to try out. I actually played it twice, it was really fun to me :)
