Raincatcher by Frank Boivin

[raw]
made by Frank Boivin for Ludum Dare 46 (JAM)

Welcome, sprite! Your job is to protect the campfire flame from all that nasty rain that's been falling lately.

Use the arrow keys or WASD to move around and stop as many raindrops as you can to prevent the rain from wetting the logs. The longer the flame strives, the better!

But, stopping the raindrops hurts you. You can however regain your heat by being near or in the fire.

You can also use flame shields to protect those logs. Try pressing the space bar to summon them. Beware, such flames will drain you of your precious heat.

Brighten up little raincatcher, sunny days are bound to be back!

I really loved the artwork for this game -- it was smooth, cohesive and thematic! Sound effects and some music might've helped with the mood of the game.

Also, maybe I just suck, but it was really hard. My best time (it was enough fun that I tried four or five times) was 30 seconds. It took me a couple of times to realize that the Flame Shields were really the key to victory, but those low angle rain drops still killed me.

All in all, great effort!

I like the idea a lot and the art style is really cute! But i think i'm missing something about the gameplay because even with the fire shields, most run won't last longer than 20-30 seconds for me, there is way too many projectiles for me. With some re-balancing it could work great though !
