Garden Royale by Nyamah

Steal water from your neighbors. Let their gardens dry up and die. They defend themselves? Use your guns. They'll try to do the same...
Enough of walking through idyllic villages gathering flowers. This is the era of Animal Crossfit.

- No sound
- No indication of whether you're hurting enemies/their health
- No clear difference between weapons (or indication that you can change)
- Some jank with weapon animations (got stuck on firing frame as the idle)
I've seen this with a lot of ludum dare games but it really needs a tutorial, it's not fun to just keep getting killed without even clearly knowing what to do.
Pretty fun game it just really needs a tutorial... (oh and scale the bushes waaaaay down)
Still I liked the game a lot just for the look. Really great work on that front.
I think sounds would be great addition to this game
- No sound, would be nice if the enemy names were floating above the wells so you could target specific rivials
It's very difficult to really feel anything without sound, and everything feels very 2 dimensional. The player graphics and the trees look very cool, but some of the other assets like the water and the terrain itself don't seem to match. With a little work post-jam this could really come to life!
The balance between relaxed gardening activities and frantic mass murder offers a lot of potential for a multiplayer game. I think for the setting pixel art works well enough :D
My main issues come from the lack of feedback about your surroundings.
Unless I had an enemy right in front of me I would get shot and not even realise at all until I was dead (the HUD does update, but you're not actively looking at it if you're focused on the scene). Also, tracking the state of your garden is simple once you figure out, but it was not immediately obvious, so I lost once because I was not aware of the withering state of my garden.
Some basic sound effects would help a lot with some of these things.
Despite all this, I do think there's something really cool past the feedback issues. Keep working at it! :D

As others have mentioned sound would help a lot, even if really simple. :)
The idea is pretty neat as well, I like the idea of bouncing between aggressive and defensive play all the time.
What needs a lot of work though is the gun play. Right now it's just press mouse 1 a few times until the enemy dies, or you die, whichever happens first. Which, technically, is how it works in all shooters. But you'll notice about other shooters is that they do a bunch of tricks to make that action feel really powerful and fun. Look at the animations in some of your favorite shooters and try to get the guns in your game to move in similar ways. Also make the enemies really react to getting hit. I'm talking particles, knockback, a bunch of sound effects, hit markers - anything you can do to make sure the player knows they hit someone, do it!
I think for a game jam it's definitely a solid effort, but if you decide to take it further you should really try to polish that gameplay up!
Keep up the good work.
