made by Fabrizio Spadaro for Ludum Dare 46 (COMPO)

!!!FULL JOYSTICK SUPPORT!!! (keyboard also) Not your usual platformer mechanics, to make the ice cube slide, you have to tilt the world. screen_1.jpg

It's a hot day outside, and a cute little ice cube is trying to get back to his igloo, will he make it on time or will the sun melt him down?!

Great game! I liked how Everything rotated for the ice-baby to move. Speaking of the ice baby, SO CUTE!!! I'm Sur this will make an awesome full game!

Wow, fresh new mechanic of controlling the world instead of the player. The melting seems to only be calculated on the ground so a cheeky strategy is to keep poggo jumping. I would love to find out if you have other idea relating to how this world tilting mechanic can be extended further

This is great, In the beginning, It felt quite slow to move around, But then I saw I became faster as I got slower, Very nice!

Very cute character, and nicely innovated in the controlling of the world instead of the character. I like the face animations of the ice cube as well.

The levels are nice and fleshed out too.

I really liked the tilting mechanic! Jumping did seem a bit sluggish to me. Also, for me it would make more sense to show the melting percentage as reverse of current (like remaining 100% -> 0%), but it might be just me. Also graphics are good and the menu looks great!

Overall great entry!

Great mechanics, the screen tilting is fantastic and tying speed/jump to the size is very clever. Creates an incentive to actually melt yourself down a bit! Visuals are very nice too, overall great job!

Fun game, very challenging. Starts slow, but the final levels were great!
I liked the cute ice-cube.

@sneakycocoon yeah I know, it was a way to make the game a bit easier, at the beginning the air had a melting percentage as well, but then I saw it got really tricky to finish some levels, so I decided to remove it and let the player bunnyhop around to melt less.

I love the design and the concept. It is great to include text in the level design to explain mechanics

However, I had a very hard time getting past Level 2.
Then later in Level 4 you explain that being smaller make you go faster and higher. I feel like, either you should have explained that earlier, or made the Level 2 introducing the shadows way easier ! :)

But this is great work, it fits the theme very well and the graphics are really cute ! Well done !

I liked the mechanic and the twist with the melting on purpose, to gather speed. Also, the increasing difficulty in the levels. Graphics was cute too! Fun game to play!

Its facial expression is soooo cute XD

The action part of the game is quite hard to me, yet the mechanic of melting adds to the strategy of the game. I like it.

Cool concept. It's surprising what you effects you can create with just a bit of a camera tilt :3 melting ice is a great way to code a timer in your game's story.

For feedback, melting only happens when you're on the ground. I find myself hopping to avoid it. Is this intentional? It feels overpowered.

A really cool mechanic. I feel like you overtested some of the levels, so a lot of the jumps were really pecise and hard. But the game looks really nice and once you have the hang of the controls it is a lot of fun!

Great concept! It was the most original idea!
Jumping with spacebar doesn't work while pressing right/left arrows, but it works with up arrow.
The difficult could increase a little slower, my 4 years old daughter loved the game, but it becomes too difficult for her very quickly, it could be facilitated for this public...
Great game, I didn't expected this quality on compo! To me this is the best game!

Lots of cool ideas here and a great interpretation of the theme. Some of the jumps were quite precise and the time pressure could be little difficult but I liked that you got faster as you melted and could heal yourself on snow - it makes you feel like you have control over those things, and sneaking into the igloo at the last second at max speed felt really satisfying. Nice job, I liked this a lot!

Great game! Loved the concept. I had a really hard time with the moving platforms but other than that, it was pretty fun. Thanks for offering to rate games today. Mine's called Innocuous Pong. There's a WebGL version, but it's a little buggy and the Mac and Windows executables are better.

this is a really good. game
I think the controls needs to be smoother (the Icecube slips faster)

I wish there were sounds as well.
I think this could be fun on mobile where you can use gyro to slip the ice cube.

I think it's a fun game and you got a very good mechanic on your hand, but because the controls are a bit finicky the player doesn't use it to its full capacity. You can easily make the controls smoother later on. Besides, it's a jam game, the essential is that you finished and you got yourself a solid base for a good game. Cheers mate!

nice work on the different elements affecting the poor little ice cube. But I thought that salt is what is making ice to melt faster ;) overall that was fun and apparently I have some platform skills :)

It's ok, but level design was meh. You can't have jumps where the player can't see where he's jumping and whether where he's jumping is safe or not.

I loved this game. I though the mechanics were clever. I liked how the amount of melted ice affected its movement. The graphics were very cool and I liked the trailing water that the ice left behind. A funny background track would be nice to have along with some sound effects, but given that this is a great compo submission I understand they might have been ommitted due to time limitaion. Again, great game!

26. Apr 2020 · 10:24 UTC
Really good ideas and they are well executed! I like how you control the world, the different speeds of surfaces, and the protective shadows. The faster movement and higher jumps of the ice when it got smaller was good too! The nice touch of the ice cube's mood in different conditions was subtle, but great addition! I feel this game needs to be polished in its movement area. It's good, but the ice cube felt a bit heavy to control which made harder levels a bit annoying. Oh yes, sound would be great too! Overall, really good job and a nice game!

(...aaaannd as I'm typing this I feel my screen is tilting back and forth, just like this game's screen, trippy!)

What a great little game you created there! and so much levels, especially for a compo!
The idea was very interesting, a sweet little puzzle platformer. Controls were smooth (made sense in the context of the ice cube) I think this would be even better with controller support :D
OR release this as a smartphone/tablet game, where tilting your screen.. well tilts the world and tapping is jumping :) I can imagine this to do really well in the App Store (I always download stuff like that ^^)
Just add sound and more assets (eye candy :))
The sprites were simplistic but sweet and perfectly balanced, it seems like you really properly used the short given time :)

Good job! We enjoyed playing it :)

@fabrizio-spadaro Whoopsie, I just checked and you're right it does indeed have a controller support, it didn't work for me before, maybe my controller wasn't plugged in before or has a broken connection, that happened to another game before, so sorry about that! :) makes your game even better ^.^

Really unique mechanics, I love it! Great job on the game, everything is introduced at a slow pace so it's easy to understand. Some of the levels were a little difficult for me, being horrible at platformers, but it was a great challenge! Solid entry!

Really nice set of mechanics. The levels progress nicely with a satisfying ramp in difficulty and new content. One issue I found is that it thinks I'm stood under a shadow when I'm stood next to a platform with a shadow underneath, maybe make your trigger zones slightly smaller? (I exploited it a few times).

The graphics are cute and over all it's a very nice game! Great job, I'd love to have more levels to play!

This was a nice amount of content for 48 hours. I liked the challenge of the later levels. If there was just a bit of audio it would make the game feel quite a bit better. It was also a little hard to tell that certain objects (such as trees) were supposed to be in the foreground. The sliding is a nice idea for a platformer and the fact that it changes how the block controls is cool.

Cool, nice take on the platformer genre. The art is pretty good, too. :)

It would've been great if the jump controls were a bit more responsive. It's kind of difficult to jump right after landing, and I was unable to jump when standing at the edge of a platform.

I like the idea - and the melting mechanic is cool, especially how you use it on the last level to require a certain amount of melting to jump far enough. The graphics a *really* cute - especially the little face on the ice cube. I found the controls frustrating though - especially in the last level, I didn't really feel like I had adequate control over my character to execute the required jumps consistently - it just took too long for the ice cube to accelerate (which was especially frustrating since the ice cube didn't go so fast in the first place). While the mechanic of going faster when slower is solid, I think more work would need to be put into making sure it still feels good to control the big ice cube. This is really solid as it is and I would definitely want to see it expanded into a more complete game.
