Retro Loop by Minos_L2b

[raw]
made by Minos_L2b for Ludum Dare 47 (JAM)

Retro Loop is a game where you are stuck in a loop (lol) and you're controlling a marble and you have to find your way out! There are 5 levels. (The level 3 is very hard, I myself have trouble with it)

Q to go left D to go right (I've got an azerty keyboard, I didn't think about qwerty sorry)

Edit : There is a bug where you can be glitched out of the level if you're going to fast, I should probably have added a restart level button, Thanks for the feedbacks!

Have fun! (it's my first Game Jam so be nice please )

Nice game! I started to try hard it quiet fast. I had a bug on fourth level and went through the walls though.

Good first attempt! I felt that the controls were quite slow and sluggish, I couldn't tell if that was a hindrance or this made it difficult enough to make it challengingly fun.

This is pretty good for your first game. Just make sure that it doesn't look to mush like one of the unity example projects next time. ;)

Q to move left ? That's weird, it's not the usual button for that, lol. I'm gonna guess you have a azerty keyboard.

The game is a little bit too hard for me at level 3, and I absolutely hate dying and retrying so I quit there. But it is as nice little game ! Looks polished as well !

Since there was no sounds or music, for the next game jam, you could try freesound.org, it really helped me through my jams.

Like your game man. Was also my first jam too. You should also look into the particle system to make your game look more alive.

I liked the game! I found that level 3 was sooooooooo much harder than the previous levels. it required too much precision to succeed. I never got past level 3 and quit after about 10 minutes

I encountered a bug where the ball went off track on the orange blocks level

Also, that level was a bit unfair

But overall, well done! Looking forward to your next game

Keep it up

Nice game, weird controls :D

congratulations! very good entry. I would have expected controls to be relative to the ball itself, meaning for example q to the interior of the loop and d to the exterior

Nice game with great graphics.
Going one lap around the first level in full speed and the trying to go for the exit glitched me through the wall and outside of the map.

Nice work here and a great execution of the theme. I couldn't get past level 3 but that is cause I wasn't very good at it.

Congrats on the first jam, quite enjoyed your entry, the third level gave me some trouble for a while but I managed to pull through :)

I liked building momentum, on the levels with orange obstacles it would be nice if the camera was zoomed out a bit more so you could see them coming rather than having to memorize positions. Good for a first jam though!

I like it, congrats on your first entry! Using Q for going left is a bit weird but it's Ok.
Consider adding a basic soundtrack or some basic SFX for your next entry.
Keep up!

Aw, I really couldn't get past the 3rd level. You've made it too hard!
Otherwise a neat idea, and the graphical style is nice: simple & tasteful!

Weird controls and a bit confusing overall, great graphics tho. I missed some music and sfx.

Nice simple game.
I was a bit disoriented as the controls are not relative to the direction of the marble (like for example in snake game).

Well done. I liked the loop idea. The control response could be a little quicker, especially on lvl3, and I would give the track some kind of texture or something just so you get a sense of how far the ball traveled. At some point it looks like it is hardly moving.

Congrats! you did well. I like the looping inertia motion and the fact that you can have multiple tries on your objective.

As you make more games, you might want to put some time to give it to play testers and adjust difficulty based on feedback. It might feel easy for you, but remember you have far more experience than those who play for the first time.

PS? I wish LD has some kind of play testing hour in the middle of the event, but most of the game makers are usually.. super preoccupied, to put it lightly.

Nice game, very true to the theme, it was quite fun, the third level seemed to be the hardest at least to me but it made me wanted to complete the game :), I however got a bug where I went off the map at the last level, would have loved seeing a restart level button or perhaps an restart level when outside the map, otherwise great work :D

Great theme take. The ball seems to go slower to the left. If you were going for this setting then it is OK, I guess it makes it challenging, but it made the orange block level impossible for me.
Overall great first jam.
Also (being nice ) Getting feedback nice or not is the best thing that can happen to all of us.

EDIT: while rating you I saw by accident that Q is for left. You should fix that. Most users use WASD for movement by default. I will try again.

Very fun concept ! The mechanics are diverse yet easily readable.
The third level is quite hard, I did not mind that. But the camera is too close to the ball, si you cannot react to obstacles.
But still, I enjoyed playing it ! Good job

Very interesting idea, but it was really hard in level 3, because just touching the obstacles a little bit means game over. I could not finish it.

For a first game as a solo dev, this is honestly a cool submission! A bit unusual to have the left movement bound to Q, but I managed to work with it.

The "rolling marble" feel was well made, and even though the controls were lightly weighted, I had fun getting creative and using the walls to act as a ricochet to move around. The 3rd and 5th levels were most difficult, they kept me there a good few minutes getting my positioning just right.

The mono-colored white walls were a bit disorienting since I had no frame of reference for how long the loop was, but I was still able to clear all the levels, whether by dumb luck random actions or timed movement.

Either way, if you wanted to invest more time into refining the mechanics or adding new levels with focus on different gameplay elements (like that inverse gravity mechanic on the 4th level) I think that would make the game better than it is already! Great work!

I flew out of the map on the fourth level and had to restart, but wasn't able to get past the orange walls of the third level again! Must've been luck the first time. Well done on your first jam entry and for staying true to the theme!

Grats on your first LD entry! The game did get a tad difficult but that was due mainly to very sluggish turning controls, once I found out I could use the momentum to bounce off walls and turn corners it became a lot more manageable but there where times where I seemed to go past an obstacle and it would still reset me as if I hit a wall. Still, good job!
