The Last Machine Before the World Ends by urielgamedev

[raw]
made by urielgamedev for LD36 (JAM)
Here is our entry for Ludum Dare 36 ! It’s not “very” ancient technologies, but we’re very proud to have a game like this after our first LD !

It’s a 2D reflex/puzzle game where you have to activate modules of an old machine in time to save the world… Will you succeed ??

Controls : mouse only
You have to keep the time bars of each module full and wait for the next level to appear !

Made with : Unity, Photoshop, Ableton Live

Hi, nice game and congratulations ! We're realizing a video with several games of the Ludum Dare #36. We made the same thing at the previous jam.

Can you add your game on indiexpo.net ? (it's free)
So we can include also your game in the video ;)
p.s. write #LDJAM in the game's description.

Thanks for checking out our game! Your game is really nice! I got to level ten, which I imagine HAD to be the final level. Your difficulty curve was absolutely sublime. So many times during the game I thought to myself "this has to be the last stage," but it managed to get harder, but manageably so! My only complaint is the the arrow puzzle (the one at the very top right) is either pretty finicky, or I didn't understand how to use it, because I had to result to ignoring it the whole time. All in all, great job!

@ThreeLivesGames thank you very much for your comment ! We noticed that most people don't understand it correctly, we'll improve the explanation or the design itself ^^
Well done, level 10 was the last !
Thanks a lot for playing ! :)

The graphics and presentation is excellent, but I can't figure out what I'm supposed to do. :D

@Resolute Thanks !
Follow the instructions for each level (at first you have to put coal in a furnace, and also crank twice so that the time bars can refill themselves, otherwise you get a malus) and do it until the next level appears (after surviving 1 minute) ! :)

Great game, you should have said that the goal was to keep the time bars full I didn't get it at first. Really fun, good graphics and sound effect :)

Fun and hard game(especially without a mouse). Great mechanics! I love the sprites and the accumulator's gas animation

I like this type of games where a complex of tiny actions makes you run like a madman trying to handle all of them in time. Actually, my other ludum dare entry was such a game, but wasn't half as good presented as this. Music creates real feeling of having to deal with some crazy machinery and you have no idea how.
For some reason top part of the game area wasn't on screen (i've been playing in browser), so I couldnt click on arrow sometimes, and can't go any further than a level five.
Also it's really nice how every detail have it's own mechanic to restore bar. A decent game, overall.

@RttStudio Thanks ! I edited the description, thanks for your feedback :)

@kapricornmedia Thanks for playing ! :)

@Mr. Chelnoque Thanks a lot for your feedback ! Yes we don't really know how to fix it, it's because of the itch.io bottom part but you can click on fullscreen to have the whole thing ^^ Anyway we really appreciate your comment :D

That was one of the best overall presentations i've seen for this ludum dare. Outstanding pixel art, nice music, really neat gameplay (even though i'm too tired to get beyond level 4)! I tip my hat to you guys. Awesome stuff.

I think I've already seen this idea somewhere, yet it's incredibly well done :D. Both graphics and sound match the gameplay perfectly, although I have to say it was hard for me and I didn't get past the levers :P

I didn't understand what to do at first, but the difficulty was steady when I finally got it so I can't be mad :). Great stuff!

Stunning pixel art, one of the visually most impressive entries I've seen. The gameplay style does not appeal to me alas, it feels like I'm having a stressful day at work :)

Didn't really understand what to do at first but once I figured it out it was good fun. Stressful but good. The pixel art was fantastic and sound was nice, but it could've been nice if there was more feedback for actions, such as the object glowing on mouseover as sometimes it was hard to tell if I clicked on the object correctly.

Tough game, took me a little bit to figure out how things worked. Very neat though, love the art, you did a really good job of keeping the player on edge! :P Nicely done!

Yes, sounds are really makes a game.

Boring a bit between levels.. I think if you reduce level timer limit it will be feels moar dynamic. Or just add something moving at background.

Really cool. I love the variety of machines and the type of gameplay. Really well executed. If I do have to find somewhere where there are some flaws, it is in details and dynamic visuals. Small things like panels where you can see flowing water in the pipes, occasional small leaks, small animals moving on the floor, and other things like that would add a huge amount to the game. It would also help the hectic feel, as it would feel a little bit more like a chaotic and living world.

Just my thoughts, as someone who is slightly obsessed with overwhelming amounts of particle effects, extraneous detail, and screen shake.

Overall though, excellent work.

I thought this was a very excellently made game! It's however also one of the few games that I gave up before even halfway...

Still, I find it very well done!

I love the mood in this, the sounds are great. The graphics fit in nice. Gameplay is challenging. The one thing I found was a bug with the gears. It seems no matter what I click on there, I get a strike.
