The Beat Keeper by SplendidDog
'The Beat Keeper' is a short side-view 'shooter' game where you have to keep the beat alive! Will you successfully keep the beat going or will the crowd overtake you, and get to the band?
CONTROLS: [Left + Right arrow keys to move] [Hold Shift for speed-boost]
Developed using: [Godot] [Aesprite] [BeepBox]
Game works with W-A-S-D, Arrow Keys, And Controllers. (Controllers were tested but not as extensively as the other options. They work but likely have some issues).

All in all, i liked it. you did great for your 3rd game!
I like the speaker feedback you have when hitting although the game may have benefited from some form of visual feedback when the enemy gets hit, as I originally tried to time the hits to the song and was not doing enough damage to kill the enemy.
Gameplay wise it does become abit spammy as that is the best way to clear out the enemies. Maybe if there were more variation in the enemies/patterns this would be less effective.
The speakers were the first thing I had worked on and coded, since it was the main part of the idea to me, and I do like how they turned out! Although I 100% agree that I needed more visual feedback for the enemies. I'll likely make a more refined version of this game in the future, and in it, I'll try to make the enemies less spammy, and more predictable with the music. Thanks for the feedback!
Although I do agree that the gameplay could get confusing, and that the enemies can sometimes be finicky. I'll take the suggestions of combo bonuses and such for when I (Hopefully) create a more refined version of this game! Thanks for your feedback and really nice words! It means a lot! =D
Also...
@splendiddog I had the exact same idea for interpreting the theme, you should check my game out!
I checked out your game and it's stunning! I definitely think you're take on the idea was superior and many ways, as it feels like a really smooth and cool rhythm game!
As feedback there's something counterintuitive to me to have to do 2 inputs to smack a beat (move away, move in). maybe you could separate movement and smack?
A highscore would also be great to give the feeling of progress.
But overall, really cool!
Overall, the game was pretty good. I enjoyed the graphics, and the audio was clean. Good job!
I do wish I had time to make more than just the one music loop for it, although I'm still happy with how it turned out! Thanks for playing it and commenting!
The art is neat however!
