Stuck In Orbit by kamen Kitanov

[raw]
made by kamen Kitanov for Ludum Dare 47 (COMPO)

gif7.gif

You are stuck in orbit around earth. Defend it against asteroids and aliens as long as you can!

Controls & tips:

Hold left mouse click to shoot & aim

Build turrets by clicking on the empty slots on the planet. Might have to do it at the beginning as you have extra time.

If your ship loses its shield it can get destroyed. If this happens, you won't be able to defend the planet for a bit, but you won't lose health.

Getting hits on the planet will deplete your health (in the top middle). You lose the game when you health goes to zero.

Getting moneys from shooting asteroids and spacefireballs is fun :P

The game works great and I like the artwork with the fancy sprite animations!
It's super simple to pick up and play with an overall difficulty that makes it easy to get into. The turrets were also straightforward to build and clear in what they do.
I missed music a little to help with the overall mood and feel.

Overall: 10/10 Would spray lasers in outer space again :P

Liked the bullet hell shooting experience. Not sure the shields and turrets worked right, as I could place both down at the same time and the shields never went down. Didn't get many actual threats even get close to hitting Earth because of that. Great target verity and effects, and having the ship orbiting was neat. Liked it.

Nice one with the turrets. At first I didn't know I could build them and got frustrated that some asteroids where hitting spots I could not defend. But the turrets make up for it. Nice work. Some music would be nice.

Not sure if the simultaneous placement of the shields and the turrets was intended but helped me quite a lot :-).
PLayed up to Wave 15 and never had any problems. Maybe a little too easy. But aside from that a fun experience.

Cool little game.

The earth is well protected:

The game requires some tuning as the turrets could protect the planet by themselves. Good job

Pretty solid! The gameplay works well and you're quickly hooked into playing more and more waves. Sadly the enemies generation gets a little obvious and you can easily tell what the n+1 wave will look and feel like ahead of time. Additional spawning patterns and late game enemies would have spiced things up a lil!
Had fun!

Same comments than above ! nice take on the theme but some audio would have been a great addition. I also was able to build both types of turrets at the same time. And it was a bit easy for that reason + because the satellite shoots so fast!

Oh, and I wanted to pause the game at some point so I pressed escape. It seems I shouldn't have :). Still, good job.

Thanks for the reviews! The game is way too easy, because for the most part I had just 20 minutes to tune it :D I wanted it to be on the easy side, since its just a jam game, but right now you can just place 4 turrets and almost afk. In the original concept I had the turrets be purchasable with the credits you earned and spend money on upgrading the satellite, but that was a little too ambitious.
In hindsight, I spent way too much time on that earth rotation animation xD I think game jams are really about optimizing your workflow and having a good understanding of how much you can do in an hour so that you can scale the game accordingly.

Nice implementation of the theme! There could have been more impact when you destroyed enemies and shot lasers. Some particle effects and sound effects would have helped a lot. Still overall a solid entry.

Played this game for quite awhile. Very arcade feel to it, I think the balance and the difficulty curve worked really well, especially for a game jam game. I was especially engaged with the variety of enemies and upgrades. Great job!

I've seen this style of game a few times within the jam, it's a nice idea and has solid gameplay. I did however find that the diffuclty was ramped up way too quick for me, sometimes I would die within seconds from fireballs! With abit more balance, i think this would be really fun!

[We played your game on stream this weekend!](https://www.twitch.tv/videos/779942253?t=01h57m18s)

This was a neat little entry  I do think it got a little easy once I realized I could buy up all the turrets and shields, but I had fun with the premise of it, and I loved how out of control things got near the end!
