hmmmmmmmm, nice game but I think I got stuck when it kept saying not enough baby needs heat

@abdurrahman-khallouf fixed a bug where that scene was monochromatic. Try clicking near the bed.

It kept saying the baby needs meat. And I was creeped out tbh.

I did not expect that at all. The game is very captivating, very well executed. Now if you'll excuse me, I have a baby demon that needs some meat.
fiaKaiera
20. Apr 2020 · 05:56 UTC
The game is well done! I love the minigames of each.

...that doesn't change about the baby though. But I think that is your intention. Baby needing meat, this spam in the end where you don't have enough. The idea of locking into stealing after stealing. Having no audio helps this creepy endeavor. Such is a reflection of parenthood to keep the child fed.

Well done! What a great entry~

You may need to opt out of audio rating, since there is none.

I figured out the bed after trying everything in the room. I love this game. Great twist, great concept, plot, atmosphere. You nailed it, man. High fives

@ofirma85 Ahaha, thank you very much. I hope the twist and build up were worth it, cheers.

@fiakaiera Yeah, you got it. I was trying to build up to it (how the expenses grow increasingly about the food, how the baby's diet changes within mere weeks). Hopefully it was worth it. And yeah, good point, opted out

@sirsnowy7 aaah this is the exact reaction I was hoping for. So glad you liked it! \o

WOW, JUST WOW! Brilliant small piece of game. How the story progress sometimes reflect our real thought of having a child  I was under intense moment where i wonder if the baby is gonna come at me for food. Very well done indeed.

In "Papers, please" you try to survive totalitarian state repressions, in this game you try to survive being a parent

cool game, but at first glance I didn't understand it (I thought I have to go to shop and buy milk for that demon kido. My favourite minigame is office worker, singer needs some tweaking in my opinion (snap to track instead of free moving)

You managed to pack so much into this! Great to get to play a variety of mini-games, and as a fellow Pico-8 jammer, I can appreciate how much work must have gone into this, well done!

@zwodahs @sneakycocoon @syo thank you for your kind words, I hope you find the story to be entertaining

@bigtinygames I appreciate the feedback; indeed, I planned to have a supermarket scene where you had to pick your food but I cut it due to time constraints. And I agree, I could expand the singer more. Thank you!

@wongkongphooey Thank you, fellow Picoer! :) I definitely overreached on this one, haha, but I'm glad it had a positive impact.

Hehe really interesting! I managed to finish the game, here are some of my notes:

**Things I liked**
- overall execution and style
- different minigames, kept the game interesting and engaging
- nice touch with different language translations

**Things that could be improved**
- music and sound effect missing, it would add another layer of atmosphere to the game, especially if you choose Singer career path
- sometimes it was confusing what's going on on the screen, I think because font was hard to read at times

Overall I feel I did an amazing job in such short while

Well, this was totally unexpected, in the best possible way. The only way this could have been better was with some more sounds, but it's extremely good as it is already. Excellent job!

No matter how many Pico-8 games I make, I still mess up the O and X buttons.
The baby art is really good.
I feel like the turn undermined the themes for me.

Nice concept. Graphics are nice yet I believe it requires better sound. I loved the ending, didn't like stealing stuff. The mini games where fun, specially the one from the singer job. Thumbs up for multiple languages!

@jeremyfa @connorthompson cheers, dudes. I went insane at some moments due to the overreach haha

@rhiz same here, I'm considering just writing Z and X from now on

@sanjuro @webox @johnjoemcbob thank you very much for your comments, they make the effort worth it :)

@rjerez192 agreed, I had to cut a fair bit. I'll budget audio for next time

21. Apr 2020 · 00:39 UTC
Oh my god this freaked me the F out, I was like "I will sing cause I have been doing office work, oh I lost 400 dollars, Stealing huh? im curious, oh.. now I can only steal, Oh this guy only has 300$, WHAT IS HAPPENING OH GOD NO PLEASE NO JUMP SPOOK" that was a really unique jam experience, the atmosphere was perfect.

No Jam game has gotten me like this, probably because people seem more mechanic oriented during jams like this. really good stuff, the fact there was minimal audio up until the stabbing made me super paranoid when the Baby needs meat started. "Baby needs meat" is just a freaky statements on its own.

Brilliant. I tried my darndest for about 10 goes to excel at these professions. Learned my lesson. One bug I'd like to report is that in singing, the X and Z icons are switched, you currently need to sing X when you see the Z character.

@edearth ostres moltes gràcies ^^ glady suprised somebody used it. This message makes the translation efforts worthwhile. I'll keep it close to my heart in my next projects.

@kunonooni haha, thank you! that's the reaction I expected :) And yeah, I've gotten feedback that the singer could be improved (I agree), it's prolly not your fault.

@ilprinny thanks! I agree. A jam is a good place to experiment mechanics, but I wanted to see if I could make a story of this genre work. Glad you liked it! ^^

@commanderstitch thank you! Originally I had hoped to make an extra steal level and introduce some stealth meter, but time was running out. Maybe I'll revisit it after the compo.

@slimabob Thanks! Yeah I've gotten that, it's a pico8 thing. I'll think of alternatives next time.

@pusheeneiro @gimblll @jeremy-ryan hahaha, I hope I managed to surprise you but in a good way

@ubershmekel good catch. I'll definitely just type Z and X next time, everyone mixes X and O (including me, judging by the bug). btw the source code *is* on the page, just scroll past the description and look for a Download button.

Really cool graphics. The X-Z and X-O thing was a bit confusing at first, but the game itself was quite interesting. Some music would have really driven home the atmosphere, but sound design as is was cool. The minigames were quite fun and the slow descent was very well captured by gameplay as well as story. Overall, I think this is a very strong experience. Short but impactful.

@steve-dragon yeah, I'm aware of the button bug. And yeah many people've been requesting music, I guess I'll have to take a crash course for next time ^^

@daanvanyperen @joshuarabbit @gonzo13 @incd021 Thank you so much, all! I'm glad you could enjoy the twist :) I hope I foreshadowed it well

@hcursino fair enough, I thought no instructions added to the shock value but tbh you're right.

Wow, that was not the game I was expecting when I first started playing. But it was so good! I'm really impressed by this entry. I like the incorporation of different minigames - you actually feel like you're improving and different jobs. As others have noted, some background audio would be nice, and I think it would help ease into some of the sound effects that happen later on haha. Overall, this is awesome, well done!

I wish i had a choice, because i cerantly dont want to keep that "baby" alive...

In all seriousness, the game was excellent, very fun and all, but explain better to the player how job works, because if i didn't read the description i wouldn't even known that there is a +money/-joy mechanic.

Keep the good work up!!!

Hahah, the alternative ending! XD I didn't see that coming! So glad I got to play, and just the kind of genre I like, quite fitting the story as well considering the theme. Overall what can I say, it was well polished, everything that it did I think it did well. The only thing is I want more now, more meat for the player....

Glad to see another Pico-8 developer out here.

@adsilcott That's high praise! Thanks!

@fabrizio-spadaro @saulo-rosart Thank you so much! And yeah I've definitely overscoped on this one haha, but I'm glad that it came out well
