EggScapement by Marcin Godzina

[raw]
made by Marcin Godzina for Ludum Dare 46 (JAM)

EggScapement is chaotic gold collecting game - the same as our lives. You play a role of farmer collecting gold eggs and trying to keep his gold egg lying chicken alive for as long as possible.

This is my first game and first game jam. I wanted to make something complete with intro, menu etc. Unfortunately it didn't leave my much time for levels. Game was made according to the Compo rules, except the 48h time limit...

Hope you will have some fun playing this short arcade style game :)

How To Play?

  • The goal of the game is to collect as many gold eggs as you can - so you need to keep the chicken alive!
  • There are many hazards on the farm. You can use planks and bananas to neutralize them.
  • Like in life - you can not have everything, you don't have enough items to neutralize all hazards.
  • Out of items and your chicken goes randomly straight to the lawnmower? Tought luck... Try again :)
  • There are 3 levels total - can you beat them? Tell me in the comments :)

Controls:

  • Collect the eggs by clicking them.
  • Rotate view by dragging mouse with button pressed.
  • Select items in lower right inventory.
  • Deactivate hazards by clicking on them while having appropriate item selected.

Tip: You can also change items with numbers 1 and 2 on keyboard. 064.jpg

Took me a while to figure out how to disable the hazards and that I had to wait until the chicken was near them so not to waste the items too early but was fun once I figured that out!

Very humorous and fun concept. Wasn't sure how to get more items, and the camera sometimes turned when I was picking up eggs.

Delightful audio, a bit hard to understand how to use the banana or the planks.

Cool idea! The art and style were cool. I really like the low poly look. It took some time to figure out what I was supposed to do other than collect the eggs, and the camera sensitivity was extremely high for me. The sound effects were witty and fit the style nicely. Nice game!

Really cool idea! I want to pick up all the eggs to boost my score, but have to keep my eye on the chicken or else it's game over. Only issue I had was that sometimes the chicken runs into a hazard which I don't have any more items to protect it against. Is there a way to get more items? Not sure if I missed out on some mechanic, but still a fun game!

Lol I really liked this game, loved the sound effects. Especially the lawn mowers. There were times that I was guaranteed to lose my chicken though, because I couldn't get more items. Did I miss anything?

The game is pretty fun. The big point is the humor, the audio, man the audio is hilarious to hear. The main problem is that the movement of the chicken is so random that it always takes more hazard that I can protect. But othervise, really fun game :3

Something about the goofy sound effects really worked for me. Great job with the audio! :) The graphics also fit really well with the mood you set.

Something strange happened when I first played - My chicken seemingly couldn't leave the safe area in the corner of level one. It was only when I started writing this comment and left my chicken running around to get a screenshot that I realized there was a second level.

I agree with @tbrax that the camera controls could be a little bit tricky when picking up eggs - It would have been nice if rotating the view was mapped to right click, so you couldn't accidentally disorient yourself, but this wasn't a huge issue.

Nice idea and graphics and sound!
Maybe the tutorial could be ingame in the intro screen to make it more accessible, but for the rest I have nothing to say that congrats!

The HTML5 version didn't like restarting and blanked out so I had to refresh the page every time I died, and it would have been nice not to have to sit through the into bit every time (as dying is quite common). But otherwise this seemed fun. Keeping the chicken alive proved quite challenging and but it's fun once you get the hang of it. Also, haha the sound effects are perfect.

Pretty fun. The graphics are really great. I think this game could really do well as a mobile release. Touch input fits well the gameplay and the random elements work well with that market (see Candy crush and gatcha-like games).

This is very enjoyable! The main menu image set the tone nicely for a hilarious time. The gameplay is rather random since the player has no control over where the chicken goes, though perhaps that's not a problem for a game as goofy as this. Resetting you to level 1 on any death is brutal! I also did not find any situation where I actually wanted to rotate the camera, but I accidentally did it a number of times - I think the game would be better without it.
