Besides that it was quite fun! Simple but working well! I wish I had more control on the direction depending on the platform position!
I had a bit of difficulty controlling the character (when trying to chang his speed with the momentum of the paddle, I often miscalculated and did not catch him), but appart from that the game is very good !
I keep being greedy trying to make combos, but instead I fail to catch him. I should probably just keep him alive by moving the bar only if necessary, but I love the stars popping out when you make a risky push.
As a mash up of the two, Arkanoid clearly had a bigger impact on the result. The Combo system is not at all as clear as in Icy Tower and unfortunately the paddle mechanic didn't translate over too well either.
It is really tricky to move the dude in the direction I'd want at the speed I'd want. More often than not there is either no change or a massive change! It is also likely that a rigirous paddle movement will miss the dude altogether, which is rather annying. I'd prefer the old way of changing the direction of the ~~ball~~ dude, i.e. simply by hitting him with either end of the paddle and no need for movement.
I don't really care about the theme in a jam, but I'm stll obliged to comment on the lack of it here. Replace the dude with a ball again and *ta-da* its a gone!
As an infusion of bright colors, light action and a tad of levity, this is certainly spot-on. As a challenge I'd play for a high highscore? Not quite there... yet!
The graphics and audio were great, just a really fun and colorful retro atmosphere. I felt that the paddle control was a little wonky and required too much of an accelerated mouse swing to really influence the dude's movement, but when it did influence it, it was way too strong of an angle. Coin collection was nice and juicy. But overall a very fun and cute idea I'd like to play more of.
