Routine by Jammin

[raw]
made by Jammin for Ludum Dare 47 (JAM)

We proudly present you our game ! It's a game where the character is stuck in a routine. Every day is worse than the precedent. His only way to get out is to call Mary, but he can't do it. Maybe if he keeps trying ?

Honestly, the game is far from being finish. But we think that he has great potential and that we can do a lot more after the jam.

Controls and explanations : Arrows to move, A and E keys for interactions. Every loop you have to do tasks. One of them is "Call Mary". You have to try five time to call Mary to unlock the end. After a few loops, the character is so depressed that he want to kill himself with everything he can find.

Though it is minimalistic, the atmosphere is eerily haunting. I was kinda upset you "spoiled" the depression of the character in the description but after playing, I know I wouldn't have necessarily understood what was going on with E key. Still a good job ! (Also that bathroom is HUGE)

I loved the graphics, the sounds and the overall idea so much! The controls in the browser version were a bit confusing though. But it was still an incredibly nice experience!

Oh my, I love it!! Is there an end to it though? Or is it just an endless suffering? Well done!

Oh, thanks, I guess I just didn't have the patience and thought it might be a bug :D

Good game !!
I had a bit of difficulty to move with arrows, the character didn't want to go where I want at first. I loved the black and white drawn universe and music

I really like how you explored the theme here! We were going for that on our game as well - the loop of modern life!

I instantly thought that the E key would be used with the knife, but I couldn't get that to work... Yet!
Oh also great music! The "going crazy" mood it creates made me instantly tell this was going to be good!

Edit: Just saw the spoilers! :v: Gotta play a bit more cya

I just LOVE the art and the music, my only feedback would be that interacting with the A key did not feel at all as something for happening, there was missing some kind of feedback :) Also the controls were a bit weird :)

Nice art style and mood. I struggled a bit with the isometric camera and arrow key navigation. But this definitely has potential.

Wow, this is a really cool game!

I got a good ending. Does it have multiple endings?

I still don't understand why I need to press "E".

Loved the drawn art, the big rooms first "ridicule" actually start turning into more of an anxiety source after some loops, and I loved the music too. Small animations and/or sound effects would have been a huge plus when performing the different actions.

I didn't manage to either call her nor suicide (wanted to see how you executed both ends but seen none so far, I will try again, more patience required)

Really liked the mood, the music and the art style. It was a cool experience with a strong theme.

I think it lacks of feedbacks on what you're doing, would have been cool to have sound effects. Despite that, you created a unique game, well done :)

Edit: Where are the sound effects you talked about in the devlog video ? :(

wow that's dark ! The controls are a bit strange, because of the isometric visuals, but the art style and sound design are great !

Love the doodle art style. Love the hints with the knife, even though I didn't know what E did. The isometric controls were a bit difficult, but eventually got used to them. Overall great game! Congrats!

Hi! It's a very beautiful game! Nice music.

I didn't understand what "E" was for either. The simple feedback of the text in red for Marry was not enough for me I had to play again after reading the comments :)

Anyway well done !

A well made game, really like the sound design and there's a bit of horizontal shift, would love too see vertical and horizontal adaptive music in such game.

Could have used some animations, effects and sound cues for the tasks.

I got till the static tv effect, I wish there was more to the game, but a really solid jam entry!

Also we could trigger the task through the walls too, a minor bug.

This reminds me of the good ol' flash games of the past.

Congratulations to the entire team and I wish the entire team best of luck for future projects!

The ending is sweet and uplifting, if you think about it.

I liked the art style very much (that's actually what drew me to play your game) and the music was nice as well. However, I think I experienced a bug - I completly lost sound after a third/fourth loop. But maybe it was intentional? To make my sad loopy life even more depressing through silence?

It would add a lot to the game if a character made some comments when he's interacting with stuff. I think it would allow the player to connect to him and get to know him better. Also, if I wouldn't read that in the description - I would have no idea that pressing E is all about my charcater killing himself with a chose object. The feedback in the game itself doesn't make it clear. Again, some comments made by the character would make it all better

This is a total nitpick, but something you may want to correct when you will be working on the game further: you call it a "furnace" and it's an "oven"

I think you have a very good concept here and can definitelly flesh it out further. Well done!

Really love the art style. Game looks incredible and the audio is great too! I thought I hit a bug when pressing 'A'. Not a lot of feedback, sound or anim to tell me I had pressed it correctly. Found the controls a bit difficult to wrap my head around too. Good luck!

Wow! Love what you guys done with the game~ I stuck in a fullscreen image of the character holding a knife when I first open the game and finish all 4 tasks... Made me had to shut down the game and re-open it. But from that, it became normal...

The art style and mood were well executed. The ending was confusing. The purpose of the E key was very unclear for the ending. A proper ending screen would have help increase the impact of the ending.

This was a great representation of what it feels like to live in quarantine lol. The music cuts off after a few loops, idk if that's intentional. I couldn't figure out that you could call Mary multiple times. Man that noise effect really made it hard to see anything. I kept wanting for the knife to be selectable but it never happened, maybe I'm just suicidal... Other than that, nice work!

Interesting little game. Good job making it!
I love the visuals!
The music adds to the mood!
As a tiny nitpick, it would've been nice to have some sound as a feedback when interacting with an element.

Good job! After calling trying to call Mary like ten times it still wouldn't work though. The music is great, but gave out after a few days. I guess the music isn't looping?
