Lumberjack by Andre Gugelmin

[raw]
made by Andre Gugelmin for Ludum Dare 46 (JAM)

In yet another routine of a Lumberjack's day, on your way back home, you find a fox with some mystical aura in it that is on the verge of death and, in an inexplicable way, the fox gave you information of where you should go to rescue it, but there is a catch though, the bad guys who attacked it are still on the way ...ludum-dare_ANMHFMQsGT.png

I love the simple 3d graphics and the particles, it felt mystical and a little spooky. I didn't know i can attack the bad guys at first so I simply tricked the ai into talking into trees LOL. I wish there is some sort of music in the background, maybe like a musicbox. Great design and good job!!

I liked the atmosphere, the art stile is solid, the sounds are subtle and effective. a fixed camera angle is risky because it can turn out badly, but you managed to make it work, and it looks and feel awesome. The fox should stop to wait for you while killing enemies, because I died a few times of this and its quite anoyng. Keep working on it, adding enemies and other environmental hazards and it would defenitly pay off, its a great game!

Everything in this game felt so slooooow. It created a kind of meditative atmosphere, not really fitting to the premise of going to rescue a fox that is dying. The lumberjack is in no particular hurry, he attacks slowly, he strolls and so on. Even the sound ambience and lighting support this meditative atmoshphere. It's a nice atmosphere, don't get me wrong, but it clashes with the premise of the game so much that it just destroyed my immersion completely.

Great job - an escort mission that I didn't hate! I love the ambiance and particularly the tree models worked very well with the enviroment. Overall, I think some enemy variety and occasional eviromental features could help complete this.

I liked the atmosphere. The graphics and sound were very pleasing. The gameplay, however, needs some work I think. At first, I was enjoying the game. Then, the number of hits required to kill the enemies ramped up at the same time as ramping up the number of enemies. The difficulty ramp was not smooth enough. It got to the point that if I stopped to kill an enemy, the fox kept going and would get killed. I could just keep walking and let the enemies line up behind me which just lead to a tedious exercise of waiting for the next log and then looping around the enemies to avoid their hits while slowly chipping away at them. At one point, I had seven in a line to kill. It could be more enjoyable if you ramped either difficulty or number, but not both at the same time.

Nice game! I enjoyed it! The animations were a bit wobbly but the style was pretty in its own way!

I thought the artistic style was nice, and the ambient woodland sounds were a nice touch.

I was confused by a lot. I didn't understand the health system, or the obstructions (it seemed like I could just go around them??). I enjoyed the character models, but I wish there was a quicker cooldown on the attack.

I really enjoyed the modeling of the fox and the trees. Nice job on the walk cycle. Walking felt a bit slow. resolution did not match my screen size. Keeping the Unity start box may have allowed me to adjust this manually.

Low poly aesthetic, forest ambiance and particle effects were pretty.

Fun to play, and I enjoyed the art and mood. I found myself letting hordes of enemies build up and follow me so I could keep following the fox, killing them at the logs. I thought it was cool that I had to come up with a strategy like that instead of mindlessly killing everything.

The lighting makes this really atmospheric, even with the minimal art style. Having a little more information about how you’re doing—your health and the fox’s—might be helpful. Overall, though, nice work!

Mood / Music / Audio all pretty well implemented, but feedback and gamefeel was pretty stiff/hard to parse, character tended to randomly turn around when I attacked and the cooldown on the attack was really long. Easy to lose since your awareness of your status, health, location of the fox/enemies and etc is hard to track. Overall i'd say focus a bit more on gameplay in the future! Clearly a lot of effort was spend on sound/ambiance, which does show!
