AMT: Alien Medical Technician by No Grapes Games

[raw]
made by No Grapes Games for Ludum Dare 46 (JAM)

AMTCover.png

A system failure at an intergalactic cryogenics facility has caused patients to thaw prematurely, and their hearts to stop. As an Alien Medical Technician (AMT), only you can administer life-saving CPR on the wide assortment of alien creatures. But be careful, because each alien has a different heart beat! Play a series of bite-sized rhythm mini-games to restart the patients' hearts and keep them alive!

Take on three different difficulty modes, or go for a high score in our Endless mode!

Made with Godot.

I love rhythm games, so i played this for quite a while! I really enjoyed it. Could see this being a really nice game with longer levels and different music! Great art style too. Impressed with how polished the game is, with difficulty settings and an endless mode. I was only a little annoyed at the controls (up and down makes more sense to me). Well done to you though!

Wow this is an impressive amount of polish. Great job. I love the voice chirp before starting, but I keep killing the patients.

I love the premise of the game and the rhythm game works so well! I just about lost it when I couldn't save the banana and it rotted :'D The controls took some getting used to, but once I got the hang of it things went smoothly.

I absolutely love the art and the visual/audio polish of the game. Though, I found it pretty hard to do the rhythm sections, because it feels like the full effects of the pitch change happens a significant amount of time after you're supposed to push the appropriate button, making it hard to know when to push. I think making the pitch change faster and be more immediate or even happen right before you're supposed to push the button would help a lot in that regard. Otherwise it's a fun and simple idea!

Love the art. Timing the buttons was a bit difficult at the beginning.

You rated and played my game, so I thought I should check yours out and I'm so glad that I did !

It was very creative, fun and easy-to-learn hard-to-master mechanics. The rhythm genre worked so well for the theme and it might just be the game I've rated highest so far! The only thing I will say is your Hard mode instructions show the medium difficulty on the top left corner but it only confused me for about 3 seconds.
Props for the Art (very unique and funny) and music syncing to the play.

Amazing game. I didn't expect to see rhythm game and i'm glad there is one. I really love the audio and art. Controls are simple yet it's not as easy to get them right..at least i tend to push the wrong one when it gets faster. Good job!

Woah, the art is awesome and the amount of different characters is impressive. The rhythm part is very hard but fun.

very impressive amount of art. The rythem game was very harsh on you and had in the scoring a tiny bit of lag so you had to press Z or X before the curve not on the curve. It was also hard so see the difference between a line that was in the middle or at the bottom after the line was at the top.

Nice entry pal. As expected (I followed your feed) graphics are really nice. Not a big fan of rythm game but this fit really nice here. Keep it up !

Lovely art! The intro cutscene was a bit too long for my taste. A lot of the text in the how to play section was also very small and with the bright backgrounds hard to read.

Great atmosphere though.

Really cool gameplay ! YOu managed to make it rewarding and sometimes really hard for a simple 2 buttons mechanic.
The intro cutscene was too long for me, and by my personal taste, i didn't like the art style. Tried hard multiple times anyway !

Amazing, I love it, the art is gorgeous and I'm impressed at how many characters you included. It took me a few tries but I managed to beat it (on easy mode).
Sidenote:
Banana - *is a banana*
Me: Hahaha. Banana.
Banana - *peels*
Me: HAHAHA. Banana is peel himself.

I love rythm games! A bit too hard for my taste (loss condition is at 75% at easy and the tracking is very precise (a bit too precise for a human in my opinion)) and i wasn't a big fan of the music. The setting and overall gameplay could make for a fun mobile game tho

It wasn't clear how good was good enough (Do I lose a life for 81%, and so on)

The concept is simple enough and a nice balance of difficulty and satisfying when you get it right. Art is quite polished! Intro is a bit long.

I don't think I ever saved the banana (on hard), though I did have enough lives to get past it.

Amazing art, and to have different variants for losing and winning for each character at that quality is impressive. Obviously time for things like this is limited, but I was playing with wireless headphones so there was a fraction of a second delay in the audio. I think a lot of rhythm games let the player do a test to correct for this.

I'm a youtuber, your game is very nice! I want to make a video with the best games of LDJam46. Something like this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aOdTsWE7iIk .
Can I find your game also on indiexpo website? The channel is linked with them.

Really good! (even though I have to admit that I'm just really bad at rhythm games in general...)
It's very difficult to get into flow. Maybe more auditive clues would help or maybe it's just a little out of sync like others said, it's kind of hard to say if you just don't feel it, if you know what I mean

But again it just might be that I suck at rhythm games

Also the lose condition wasn't clear at first, had to play around a bit to get a feeling for it, maybe just add it to the gui like that: **55%**/80%

But great game, great idea and great graphics :) Would play again!
(or just gift it to my gf, she's way better with rhythm games anyway ;) )

I Loved the artwork, and the game kept me playing for a long while... Honestly this dosen't even feel like a game jam game... Good Job!!! =D

Just one thing: I suggest to split the tutorial in more screen with less information, or at least reduce the amount of information on the screen, because one big screen filled with information it's overwelming and often skipped, when it shoudn't be...

This game was well done. I attempted it on easy and failed quite a bit. Might be because its late. It's certainly interesting and awesome that it was made in Godot.

Really enjoyed it!!

I think there was a bit of input lag, but that is literally my only complaint about this otherwise stellar game. It's really well made and evokes the feeling of the flash era of yesteryear. Great portfolio piece and I would love to see a mobile version of this with more levels!

So much art! Love all the aliens. Really impressive how much variation you were able to accomplish in such a short amount of time. The gameplay was tight, and the only thing I was craving was a little more story behind each of the aliens- maybe as a win condition for each success? Great job and surprising amount of content for a jam game. Also, cool to see a Godot game. Thanks for the game!

@amazura I saw that snapshot waaay too often. The game was very fun and surprisingly difficult. I'm usually good at games like this, but today... whooo.

I love the art style as well as the gameplay. The music really brings it all together. I'm a fan of this. :D

Holy crap, this is so cool! The art is really good. Like actually good, like not even cringey like a lot of manga style stuff tends to be.
The gameplay is pretty standard for a rhythm game, but that's pretty cool. I know I've had trouble getting audio to sync properly when making rhythm games.
The audio synthesis is a neat touch. Actually modulating the audio live instead of just turning a file on and off is really cool. Maybe it would be good to be able to click a button to hear how it's supposed to sound before you play it would be good. There was one song where I couldn't imagine what it was supposed to sound like so I had a hard time timing it just from the visuals.

Oh, you made Meter Maid DX. The cuteness continues!
🎤 No Grapes Games
24. Apr 2020 · 07:23 UTC
@scott-steffes Thanks for the feedback. We definitely worked hard on the art and the code, so it's much appreciated. Once we had decided on a rhythm game, the sound synthesis was one of those things that we decided to just run with and try, so the feedback on that is also appreciated. The high pitched sound that follows the user input lags behind the actual beat by design, but that may not have been a wise choice since it can cause some difficulty!

Having some kind of preview is definitely something to consider. And yep, guilty as charged, Meter Maid DX was us as well :)

Excellent art and UI design. I loved the combination of story, rhythm game, and arcade quality. I found the mechanics to be easy to pick up, but hard to master. This game is so polished, I hope you continue with it.

I feel the music is a bit off from the EGR line sometimes and that trows me off.

I saw this and thought, "hm this makes me think of that awesome meter maid game from a while back." I'm glad to see another entry from you folk! This one was fun :) The music was great, the art draws me in, and you get lots of extra points for doing a rhythm game. That is not easy! If I could make any suggestions, it would be to add a third level to the rhythm part: like a key press combo or a third key to match a target strength. It's hard to give cpr to a banana after all.

very well done!

Wow! Really cool game. Didn't know what I had to expect by the screenshots but I was pleasantly surprised to get a rhythm game. I'm baffled how you managed to get SO much art into the game. The quality is a bit rough, but the sheer amount makes up for it. Really great to see a diffrent character for each level and even in different versions (sleeping / awake). You can tell that you had a lot of fun making all the character designs. Loved the banana :D The music was cool as well. Loved how you managed to alter the music depending on the performance of the player. Very polished experience all in all. One one the best games I played today. Great job!

Really reminds me of Zelda: Twilight Princess where you have to howl as the wolf. I find the blue dot to be quite distracting especially when you loose the rhythm, makes it really difficult to get back at it again

I liked the core idea of the rythm mechanic, and the fact that the pitch followed the gameplay, but the audio was not pleasing to my ears - which was an interesting experience, since I tend to want to play rythm games for their good music. Polished strong and well-executed art, even if not my cup of tea.
