I think if you had a faster burnout time on the fire, but a way to stockpile wood so it would "refresh" itself if you were gone could lead to more of a need to manage it. Overall tho I think its pretty solid.
For the gameplay, I would have loved to be able to bring a torch with me from the fire, with a limited lifetime, because it's veeeery hard to avoid ghosts! :)
Is there a way to reach the cabin? Was searching for it but was unable to find it.
Is here an other way to win this ?
The speed of you character was a bit frustrating as you had to go back and forth. Especially when you go very far in the forest and you realise you have to go aaall the way back
Graphism are super cool though !
Bonus points for the music, very cool synth vibes. :)
As others have said, maybe a bit of finesse on the controls, or a different control system would help once you're in the forest maze trying to avoid smoke monsters.
Only thing that annoyed me was when monsters appear in a 1-block path, I'm either dead or the fire burns out because I can't get the wood.
I like the graphics and the ambience! But my friend were complete bastards - I'm coming to the fire chased by a monster and they don't even look up from their drinks ;).
also i find it amusing that our core idea for our jam is nearly identical to yours, guess we weren't too creative:)
This was pretty atmospheric, though considering the prominent guitar I was surprised by the lack of guitar stuff on the audio front. The graphics were great, and floppy moustachioed guy by the fire was one of the most entertaining pixel animations I've seen this whole Jam. But it would have really upped the challenge if you had to race all the way back to the fire each time to disperse the demons. As things stand, it was actually pretty relaxing after a while. Would have also been nice if the forest map had openings all around and not just in one direction. But overall it has a solid core with lots of potential. Nicely made.
