ChargeMe by WMute

[raw]
made by WMute for Ludum Dare 46 (JAM)

Screen.pngAfter the nuclear explosion, only robots remained on the surface of the earth, who looked after the garden and equipment. Now that there are no people left, robots are forced to maintain themselves in working condition and survive in this difficult time. Your task is to control robots to maintain their efficiency by finding resources in the form of a tree and burning them to get energy and charge robots. One robot "gardener" he knows how to cut trees and water bushes for further growth. The second robot "mechanic", he knows how to repair and cut metal.

The graphics look really cool! I couldn't get my robots to charge at all after the first time, so I didn't know what to do and they ended up just running out. Honestly, I couldn't figure out how to do anything after I charged Atlas, so I just kind of went around destroying trees. Maybe improve game to player communication next time? Anyway, a solid attempt. Good job!

Definitely a neat idea. Would have been nice to see this idea developed a bit more, with P-Body maybe having a few more things to do.

I couldn't figure out how to get out of the starting area? With that said, I think the graphics and approach is very good! I like the concept.

The graphics combined with the music make the post-apocalyptic atmosphere feel just right. I could not figure out what to do after charging second robot though. :(

I'd say this game has the best atmosphere of any I've played so far! Loved the atlas & p-body reference. The game was very hard but a cool idea.

This game looks spectacular. You should add sounds to give the player feedback for when things happen: like when a tree is cut down, or when your robot can't charge anymore. The gameplay is lacking. It's just walking around getting trees without a point. But the looks make up for it :)

I loved this game! it´s amazing what you achieve in 72hs!

No, it takes less than 72 hoars. around 60h. unfortunatley we can't finish a few cooll things.

Thanks for your feedback guys! For us this is very important how far we can go for 72h.

To go out just wait for 100% charging. After try to find your friend and charge him. Grab wood to Genertor (the blue one) and after charge your robot and grab more wood....

@karln They can more but we didn't have time to implement it.

Great graphics and a nice idea!
I like that you need to puzzle your way out using both bots.

I think we will continue to work on ChargeMe. We have a lot of ideas to make the game better. The game was done from a scratch without any third-party libraries. Unfortunately not too much time to implement everything we were planned. It was our first LD event and we gained a lot of experience. Thank you for your feedback positive or negative.

Are those.. fallout assets? :P

The game mechanics are really well done, pathfinding is good, movement is smooth. Just a little bit too much waiting in the gameplay loop I would say, and I can't seem to really power up the robots to 100%. Wood doesn't seem to give much fuel.

That was the plan :-) However, the balance is still is not perfect

I really like the enviroment, but the gameplay is little bit broken. Also I found a bug when Atlas is interacting with the generator at 3% or less, the battery start to fall bellow 0% and it never stops (-100% and beyond).

Very nice graphics, it's like a vertical slice of something that could be very cool. I like games that feel physical, like playing with a diorama. I would love to see particles here-- sucking in the wood, sparks when charging. I couldn't get the recycler to stay alive unfortunately.

Love the idea. I hope you develop this further.

For the future - please name the game folder by the games name. It's hard to find yor game among 20 other ludum submissions I have on my desktop when its named "Build.zip" :).

Great graphics :) I am looking forward to seeing more of this.

// ( Hoping that you will continue to work on this - I have found something weird. Atlas ran out of battery in between the green plants and P-Body got stuck in the weird animation when trying to charge Atlas. )

@denis123 We a plan to continue to work on it. Regarding stuck... sometimes navigation system issues appearing it's true. I'm still polishing it. The best option is to try to move another robot from another side.

Very cool idea! I would love to see this fleshed out with more robot friends and more things to do! Also it would be cool if the power indicator was on the robot itself as well?

Like a little charge light or something, when the power is low is starts flashing?
🎤 WMute
24. Apr 2020 · 10:09 UTC
@nsadie We are thinking about robot upgrades to make them be able to do another things. I don't think the family will grow. It's just a story about two service robots =) Regarding indicator I have thought about it. it's a good idea but for now I don't know how to make it organic from the design standpoint. Flashing light could be solution but I would like to see a battery bar. Because it's top-down view there is not much space to place it.
nsadie
24. Apr 2020 · 10:20 UTC
@wmute You would need to put the indicator at the top somehow. You could always give them a little antenna with a light at the top with some fun bounce effect! https://forum.unity.com/threads/car-antenna-physics.464619/

Hi there, really like the graphic, but stuck on tutorial after knowning could collect, could give more suggest? really like to play rest of the game.

25. Apr 2020 · 06:14 UTC
@thearchitect at this moment it's a finish of the tutorial. Just try to stay active as more as you can. You need to collect resources to refuel the generator which will allow you to charge your robots. Just keep in mind the game was done in 60 hours =) It has very basic mechanics. After the end of the event and based on feedback we will decide what we will do with this game. We have a raw plan regarding the game and I'm really would like to keep work on it.

Hey there! Thanks for checking out my game, i managed to play yours as well :D I had a good time trying to balance Atlas and P-Body's charges but it proved too difficult for me in the end. I wish there was a way that P-Body could transfer charge to Atlas after the first little tutorial
