Cannon Knight by Gonzalo Antuña

[raw]
made by Gonzalo Antuña for Ludum Dare 46 (JAM)

Defend your castle from the Zombies and Orcs, don't let them get to the gate! The game will end if they destroy it. Jump using W and move using A and D, get in the cannon holding E and shoot with the Left Mouse Button. There's an automatic flamethrower to help you that needs fuel, hold shift to pick up the box and drop it inside the oven to make sure it works!!

Fun for a bit, quickly gets boring though ;D. Could use some music.

controls could have been mapped to better keys, some sound would have made it feel more alive!

I liked the sound of the cannon with the echo, and the gameplay is good also. it's too hard to go refuel, but I like the nice little details such as the fact that carrying something makes you heavier and you cannot jump as high as before, as well as the background

gfx is cool but needs some animations, keep up with the good work!

I really like the concept here. Managing your time between defenses is a cool mechanic. I think holding the e key for the cannon is a bit clumsy and adds an additional control that might be better served by just standing next to the cannon. The flamethrower refueling also doesn't happen immediately, which was a bit confusing. But great job, I really enjoyed it!

Fun little game! It could use a little balancing as the flamethrower is definitely OP; made it from wave 10 to 18 by just refuelling it, which made the cannon redundant and the game boring. If you actively chose the cannon over the flamethrower though it's really enjoyable. Well done!

I enjoyed the way the cannon does not shoot in a straight line, but arcs with gravity, so leading the targets was pretty interesting! I eventually found that I did best if I just held the mouse still and got used to the timing of one specific shot, and treated it almost like a rhythm game. Got up to around 118 I think? At one point I found you can live forever: Jump out of the castle and run up to the guys and then hold E, and you kind of "hold" the entire line of enemies... you can even march them right off the screen back where they came! Secret non-violent solution??

Cool little action game, nice work!

We are a team of 4 with no previous experience in creating games, so thank you all for the positive feedback. The game has some silly bugs that could easily be fixed, but we can't until the event ends as I understand it.
We had some extra mechanics to add like a time between increasingly difficult waves, more enemies, an ammo system for the main cannon, an elevator, etc, but you know ... only 3 days.

About the controls: With E you use the cannon, you have to hold it down because in an early part of the game, pressing and releasing it gave us some problems (bugs) and we decided to leave it like that, it is somewhat uncomfortable, I know. Hold the Left Shift down to lift the boxes that reappear downstairs and leave them in the oven to refill the flamethrower and get extra help during waves. Is something OP, yes, we wanted to make it use more fuel to avoid lasting the whole wave, it is a balancing error.
Anyways, thanks for the comments and ratings :D

Fairly fun, wish there were some cannon upgrades or something to keep it interesting. I didn't realize until my second playthrough that I could feed boxes into the furnace to refill the flamethrower, which helped a lot :P

One small suggestion I would add is maybe the addition of some flying enemies. Just shooting at guys on the ground swarming the gate isn't too challenging. Good job though regardless!
