- Try to add different sounds and randomize them.
- Set different type of enemies.
- Set a way to increase the plant live (collecting or self healing).
There are things that could be improoved tho: You should put a score counter there - the feel of progress is really satistying in games. There is also a lil issue with sprites overlapping,
but nevermind your game was fun and i hope you will fix those little mistakes!
First of all, thank you very much for taking the time to play our game and vote. Your feedback made us very happy.
Our first thought in terms of the angle of the game was to design it as 2.5d, but since we did not have much experience in design, we had to decide the topdown style considering 72 hours.
We had some difficulty in enemy spawning and targeting. We added the life bar and the mp bar to the character, there would be special power ability, and when the enemies increased too much, when we used that ability, there would be more field shots with a special ray gun. In addition, the plane passing over would throw us missiles, their designs were ready.
We can reproduce plants, as you said, it's very logical. We also thought to collect something from around to restore the health of the plant. Or we thought the plant would renew it self healing.
We were building the project for the first time and we couldn't implement most of the things we thought. However, after the positive feedback that came after, we decided to develop the project. We are sure that we can do better.
Thank you again for your feedback.
Actually, we experienced a lot of things since we attended this jam. We hope the continuation will come and everyone will benefit from this jam.
I don't know why the map is so big if it has no advantage to leave the plant space. The enemies always go through it, and if I leave the plant will take damage no matter what. Maybe I'm missing something though.
However, graphics, sounds and gameplay worked well together. I didn't have any technical problems which is nice!
Congratz for your entry! It was a really good start!
Some feedback though:
- I would allow the player to move and shoot at the same time. It was a bit awkward that once I moved, I no longer could shot, even for a few seconds after I stopped moving. This really discouraged me from moving around and exploring the map.
- There should be a few side objectives for the player to focus on as well. The map of the game was pretty large, but from what I could tell, there wasn't really anything for the player to do in it, and therefore there was no reason for the player to leave the plant area, meaning that ~90% of the map wasn't being used. This could be fixed by giving the player a reason to go explore the map, such as picking up ammo, health, or maybe some sort of enemy spawner the player could go and destroy to slow down the spawns of enemies for a short amount of time.
- Since Game Jams have very limited amount of time, it's better to have a smaller scope of mechanics that are polished, rather than a lot of mechanics partially implemented that don't affect the game in the end.
Overall though, nice game, congrats on making a playable game for a game jam in a short amount of time. I look forward to playing your game at the next game jam!
