LadderManCapture.png

Help your little buddy get to his house using your handy dandy magic ladder!

  • A and D to move
  • Space to jump
  • Use the mouse to aim the ladder, and right/left click to extend and retract it
  • F to drop the ladder and summon it again
  • Alt F4 to quit ... (desktop)

Enjoy!! This was my first jam and I really enjoyed it, only wish I had have more time to polish and add more content.

The movement seems kind of glitchy on the ladder - I'm using the web version

Very interesting idea! This reminds me of "Getting Over It". It took me a while to figure out how to walk (because you seem to be unable to walk while the ladder is not fully extended). I did not get very far to be honest, because it is quite hard to get the main character on an upper level. I am still unsure how to do that properly, hmmm.

@ben-hack You're definitely right about the ladder movement. I need refactor it to handle slopes and I think there's something catching on the ladder. Thanks for the feedback :D

Very crazy control scheme. Lots of fun but never got past the second platform with the little guy :D

The idea is really good, but the controls makes the game really difficult to play.

Awesome little concept! My biggest issue with the game was the controls with the man sliding across the ladder and not moving on the ground and vise versa. Maybe having the controls seperate like A and D for the ladder ad arrow keys just for the guy but Its hard to say. With this in mind the controls did bring a fun sense of panic and chaos, sort of like the game 'Getting over it'. Regardless I loved the concept and had a blast playing it. :D

After many, many tries I finally managed to get the little man to the second platform. Couldn't get there myself though as I couldn't walk up the ladder and didn't find any way to get there while carrying the ladder either. So a little hard to judge the game based on the tiny amount of it I've seen (not sure how much there is after the second platform). I'd love to see a playthrough of this though, in case anybody records one. If that happens please let me know. :D

Also the animations are really cute. A little sound would be nice though.

Edit: Tried once more, now got to the third platform. Progress!

I love the idea, you can make a very cool game with it (maybe a mobile game).

The design of the caracters is nice. The main issue is the control, it's too hard to manipulate the ladder. Also, add more effect to make the game more juicy.

Good job.

I learned the hard way that right click in browser games is not a good idea. Keep this advice in mind in the next one!
Some browsers in some OSs (I use Opera/Windows) don't handle that properly. I believe that happens when the browsers get that command as a right click in the page, causing the inputs to get stuck because they lost the "OnButtonUp" event. This reinforces the feeling of a glitched input system, even more in a hard game like this.

About the game: I missed some track of progress while playing. I learned pretty fast how to play and was able to get to the house, but the worker just continued walking towards it. Next time, would be nice if you prioritizes the player's reward for playing your game (this includes sense of progress and some end screen).
I also missed different challenges, the path could be a bit different with minor tweaks, like maybe making a tight path, a diagonal or vertical structure, things like that.

Summing up:
- Don't use right click as input if you plan to make a web version
- Reward the player

But besides that, I had fun playing! I always like the challenging ones and you did a good job here!
