Amor Fati by starvingindie

[raw]
made by starvingindie for Ludum Dare 45 (COMPO)

amor_fati.gif

Amor Fati is a feel-good micro game about what can be created from nothing. For this jam I challenged myself to make a non-violent game that stuck closely with the theme.

Please enjoy :)

Wow, I loved this game!
The fact it was simple and short made me really appreciate your storytelling skills more.
Great music, great mood, great story - great game!
Well done! :)

Sidenote: It was pretty addicting too ^^,

Really nicely done. I love the whole aesthetic. The particles are brilliant, and I love the shaky effect when you click.

its not really a game to be fair. "click screen 20 times and then thanks for playing".
but it looks REALLY good, so props for that.

Such a lovely little experience. You did an amazing job at telling so much in so little time. Of course I wish there was more but I also know that maybe the shortness is part of what makes it great. A very nice entry.

Oh hey, a fellow Godot coder :) The art is just beautiful, the entire aesthetic is so fluffy. A great message makes this a perfect little game that fits the theme super well.

Very good mood and polish, attention to details (that itch.io theme matching the game's is rad). Good introduction and storytelling, but the game was too short once you realized you can spam LMB to get through it.

Kudos on the non-violent theme. 👍

PS: I thought we cannot use external audio in Compo and have to make it from scratch?

07. Oct 2019 · 20:50 UTC
@polyethyleneglykol Great point about the spamming LMB. It was a hard design trade off to make: keep the cooldown timer between clicks or let the player go nuts. Letting the player go nuts felt more fun and gives you the option of choosing to spam LMB or not.

Very short but also very nice! I liked how the particles & subtle animation and sfx came together and made the game satisfying to interact with!

The ability to spam click felt a bit unintentional however.

@starvingindie Oh sorry! I looked at the website too quickly, I though it said "Royalty free music for creators" as in this was a database of free music. I didn't realize it was an app! Sorry about that, and thanks for correcting me, I will have a look at it that looks useful :)

@purpledartfrog Thanks so much for letting me know. I'll look into that, but it seems to be an issue I'm seeing with Godot html games. Are you by any chance playing on Firefox and on Windows? If so perhaps try playing on chrome or downloading the Windows, Mac or Linux build. Again, thanks for letting me know about the issue and I'm sorry that was your first experience with the game.

The game has pleasurable and apt graphics and music, as well as satisfying visual and audio polish and punch. It seems to end too quickly, however, and the game can be beaten without even moving the mouse, its only form of control. I would suggest expanding upon the bumping section if you decide to expand the game any further, perhaps by adding an element of strategy. Overall, nice work.

This was really beautiful, which makes me especially impressed since it was for the compo. You crushed it with the graphics and the audio - the game has a really great vibe to it. I was a bit sad that just by clicking as fast as I could I could pretty much beat the game in a few seconds, so there's definitely some room for taking the core mechanic and expanding on it. But overall, this was really cool! Also, great to see some other Godot developers in this LD!

Nice atmosphere, its a small game but it gave me relaxed vibes.
I found a bug, if you create the guys next to a wall they will bump into each other instantly, finishing the game instantly, maybe you should limit the area in which you can spawn them?

I said its a small game but didnt realize it was a compo entry, sorry, its done very nicely for a game made in 1 day by 1 person

This was so cute!! :3  Graphics are very nice and fit the atmosphere. Music is nice too but I think it's a bit loud :P I like that instead of killing them by clicking you make them find love :P I would suggest adding an end screen stating how many creatures you created and how many of them found love in order to have a bit more "game-like" elements. Good job!
