Super Platypus Drifter by ricargoes

The game

Take control of the space ship of Billy Duck, a platypus who has to cross the infinity of space in a quest to help your kind.

By timing correctly your ship boosts, you must hop from planet to planet to advance in deep space while avoiding a variety of space hazards. Watch out for the fuel, you must collect fuel cans so you don't end stuck in a loop (:D), orbiting a planet endlessly.

plat2.png

Two modes:

  • Campaign, an epic platypus chronicle
  • Endless: How far can you get with your ship in this procedurally generated map?

Controls:

  • LEFT/RIGHT arrow or joystick: orient ship
  • Hold SPACEBAR o controller RT to charge booster
  • Release SPACEBAR o controller RT to impulse the ship (careful, you do not want to crash your ship)

We hope you enjoy playing the game as much as we did making it! :)

Game created for the Ludum Dare 47 using Godot game engine (https://godotengine.org/).

I really loved the graphics and thought the voices were hilarious! I found the game to be really hard and I found that the text that appeared by my ship was too small for me to read. Also, I often saw a wrap around of the various planets and my ship (seeing 2 of the same planet was confusing); I played most of the game with 2 of my ships on screen.

Awesome entry! I really enjoyed the platypus motiff.
The controls felt great, however the fuel was ball-ache to hit sometimes.

All-round a lot of fun.

Interesting controls, it felt like I was pulling a bowstring. I appreciate the 2001 space odyssey reference. :)

I love the conversation at the start of the history mode
It's very fun playing. One issue I had was that my screen is 21:9 and I lose before I reach the right side of my screen. Otherwise the game was very cool, nice graphics, good choice of music and nice menu. Well done!

Funny game. I liked the way the ship moves, nice mix of control and lack of control. The sound track just WORKS!

Pretty cool. I think the charge UI should be attached to the player instead of on the corner. Also in my opinion the orbits shouldn't have a set direction, they should just spin you in the direction closest to the speed you had going in. And it's weird that you can go offscreen. I'm just saying the negatives here but I actually really liked the game. The platypus theme is great, the dialogs are fun!

Liked the game ! the items were a bit small but that seems to be the only downside ^^ Really liked the physics handling and the overall mood !

The voices and story text are funny, and the music and graphics make for a really nice experience. The artwork could have been a bit more cohesive (all pixel art or non-pixel art) but I really enjoyed it

The game was little tough at first took some playing to get the hang of it. I loved the little animations and the personality of the game. The little speech bubbles that popped up while playing were a nice touch. Tons of polish, great entry!

Really nice the feeling of floating in the space with the right music, great art too!

This is awesome hahah. Y'all nailed the humor aspect. Goofy writing and goofy talking sounds, and even the movement mechanic is funny. Sometimes I would crash into the planets and sometimes I wouldn't, that confused me a bit. I am not sure what the little atom looking powerups do. The "space time anomalies" were a nice touch. On the first level I was thinking hmm...it would be nice if the screen went faster when I got towards the end. But then the second level was like FASTER EH? That was a nice difficulty ramp there. Awesome job!

Cool concept and nice work on the story. Feels very satisfying to get the perfect shot between planets. I thought I was crashing randomly at first but that turned out to be me going too fast, which is a bit annoying. Great job overall though.

I love the momentum and impulse based movement in this game, but the small textbox tied to the character can be hard to read if you're moving really fast.

I love the concept, but the lack of UI scaling made it impossible to read at higher resolutions

Only feedback I can give is it's much too difficult, and I couldn't see the whole game.

Adding StarFox like characters and dialogue definitely gave this game a leg up from some of the similar space games I've seen on this jam. I liked orbiting to save fuel. Didn't get very far!!

Five stars for humor. I cannot stop laughing. The voice acting is on point. Controls are really old school, like the asteroids vector game from the 80s. But then... as a platypuss with a gold monocle, gliding from orbit to orbit, playing freaking Strauss... I just feel like I should drink Whiskey whilst playing this beautiful game. Thanks for making this, you guys made my day!

Takes some getting used to, but mastering the controls feels great. That feels like just the right kind of "Difficult".

Awesome game made in an awesome engine :-P I liked the voices but as I crashed a lot at the first level I missed a button for skipping them ^^U

@island-jam-2-group-3: In the menu you can disable conversations. A smarter system would have been better but there was no time.

I love the light tone of the game and the platypus guy is cute haha. The physics are in my opinion a bit crazy, I was flying all around the screen, but it might have been negative for some, I found it funny as hell! I really laughed at my fails before I got used to the controls. And I very much appreciate the space mood you created with such beautiful graphics :)
