Keep Society Alive by Tom Cumpsty

[raw]
made by Tom Cumpsty for Ludum Dare 46 (COMPO)

My 3rd Ludum Dare. Too ambitious as usual.

Due to the global pandemic, people have taken to selfishly stockpiling the very thing that holds our great society together.

Toilet paper.

Without you, society will surely perish. Only you can remedy this situation stockpile enough of a reserve of toilet paper to Keep Society Alive!

First ever Pixi.js game (I've been looking for an excuse to play with it) so I hit a few bumps. Not mobile compatible unfortunately, you need a keyboard to play.

You are supposed to be able to drag items into your stash and the concept was for a multiplayer game with the same mechanics and weapons.

Edit:

I intended to add more instructions at the start, but ran out of time. So this should help:

  • You need to collect the toilet rolls and take them back to your stash (where you start) to score.
  • The police officers are enforcing a lockdown and there's a chance they will spread the virus to you if they get close. You can't shoot them (unfortunately) but you can run.
  • the health pickups either give you health packs or medicine that eases the virus.

I'm considering developing this further, and creating the multiplayer version.

Changelog: Quick bug fix. Fixed a bug where taking a white pill could cure the disease completely, rather than just easing symptoms.

Interesting game with some good mechanics. It would definitely be better if the inventory worked. Also, oi oi oi oi oi oi oi oi oi oi!

The music suited the theme well, but every time I got out of a building a bird yelling "oi,oi,oi,oi,oi,oi,oi,oi" got stuck on me and didn't let me enjoy the music. I also wish there were a little bit more frames per second.

Interesting game. Would have loved to be able to kill the OI OI OI creatures. Also was there a way to beat the game? If there was I couldn't figure it out.

The sound effect thing of the dude hitting you is hilarious. Couldn't figure out how to play or whatever but the sound effect had me cracking up.

I commend you for trying to go multiplayer in a weekend. Gameplay was good, tank controls were fluid. Well Done!

Interesting idea and there's some potential there. I found the controls really hard to get used to, but maybe that's just me.

It was a good idea to use the toilet paper crazyness in this game. It was fun but the "oi oi oi oi" sound was kind of annoying.

Interesting concept and usage of theme !

However, I found that the movement was not smooth, indeed, it seemed to stutter a lot on my side, so it prevented to enjoy well the game.

But, overall gg for your work ! I think that with more time it could make a great multiplayer game !
