Infinity testing room by TheGreenMan

[raw]
made by TheGreenMan for Ludum Dare 47 (COMPO)

Infinity testing room is a first person action puzzle game.

No matter what you do in this room, it seems like everything always comes back everytime you go around. How could you possibly get out.

Controls

WASD to move

Left-mouse to shoot

Space to jump

R to reload

EDIT : A friend of mine informed me of a little bug in the game. I looked into it and it turns out it was just a missing reference in the Unity Editor. I fixed it (took 2 seconds) and put the fixed version online. I left the original so you can see for yourself that I didn't change anything else. I really wanted to fix it even though it's past the deadline because it literally prevented the game from being completed. I didn't change any code just a drag and drop in the editor. If it bothers you, just dowload the original, the gameplay is the exact same except you won't be able to finish the game.

EDIT 2 : I received multiple comments saying that the mouse sensitivity was way too low. I patched in a mouse sensity slider real quick. I can totally understand if you think this is not okay, that's why I again left the original on Itch.io so you can download the game exactly as it was when the Jam ended. I really feel like allowing to change the mouse sensitivity doesn't change the game while allowing you to properly judge it without the experience being ruined by slow camera movement. The different versions are clearly labeled on Itch.io so you can choose for yourself. Thank you. (Press ENTER to see the slider)

This is the first FPS I've seen in a while.

The mouse sensitivity is way too low. My wrist was moving a lot for each fight. Aside from that the controls felt good. The reloading was perfect. I think that hitbox for the robots is small, but it still felt right. I liked how health worked and the reddened screen that went with it. The level was organized well too.

I did find it a little too repetitive. It probably wouldn't have felt that way if looking around wasn't so frustrating.

On the note of the bug fix. I think that game-breaking bug fixes are generally accepted. Thanks for fixing it, so I could get an ending.

Good job.

@pincushion Yeah my mouse sensitivity is quite high and I didn't think about it while making the game. I'm glad you still enjoyed it ^^ Thanks for your comment!

Like pincushion said the mouse sensitivity was pretty low, which is ok cause my mouse has a quick way to adjust it without leaving the game. Speaking of my mouse, a while back I changed one of the side buttons to enable turbo and discovered it was really useful for cheating at your game. It was fun to empty a clip super-fast. :mouse_three_button:

Nice work.

@mikelovesrobots I mean... I wouldn't call it "cheating" haha! Thanks for playing and thanks for the comment! ^^

Sensitivity is really low but that's a nitpicky thing that doesn't have to do with the game and doesn't detract from the experience. I think enemies could have used a little more oomph when they get destroyed but I understand given the time frame. It's a really fun game albeit a little hard to figure out - maybe add a line of text on the LD page telling people what to do? I really like the reload animation, it's super cool! Plus the particles when a bullet hits a wall are really well done and satisfying. Overall it's a solid entry and a fun little fps game, plus I *really* enjoyed hanging out with you on the stream!

@sharks Hey man! Thank you for the comment! ^^ A particle effect was planned for when enemies explode, but I didn't quite get the time. For the "hard to figure out" part it was kinda intentional. Figuring out what you have to do IS the puzzle. Executing it is pretty straight forward once you get it. (That's how I see it at least, but I take the criticism ^^). Having you watching my stream was super fun! I'm glad you were there cause you were my only viewer for most of it XD. Thanks for playing my game and I'll make sure to play yours when I have time <3

Unfortunately, even with my mouse speed set as high as I can get in Windows (don't have a fancy gaming mouse with its own settings) it was still really painful to move around, and especially, aim.

I do like the overall aesthetic though. It's simple, but well done. The reload animation is great. The gun play was simple but not boring.

I really liked the health system. I felt like I could manage getting into a fight, as long as I could find cover later while I regenerated. Nicely done!

@sharks @pincushion @nick-rafalski @mikelovesrobots I added a mouse sensitivity slider to the game, If your interested in trying the game again without having to yeet your mouse accross your desk. You don't have to. I just wanted to let you know. ^^

Nice little first person game. I found some bugs where I could look through the walls.
Sounds and music was good. Controls felt okay.
Good little game. Well done.

@tgiant I was aware of the bug actually, but didn't get time to fix it XD I had to cut the corners in a bunch of places (which is normal for a game jam). Reworking the controls was also part of the plan. Thanks for playing! ^^

I am so glad to find a FPS game here. I guess I need to follow the arrow on the top of the door to go out. However, the Mouse sensitivity is too low and it is hard to play! How could I get more bullets and even I died I could not refresh my bullets.

Cool little fps. Nice graphics and music. I also liked the fact that there is a bit of platforming
even though there are some bugs with collisions: sometimes you can look through the walls. Maybe I found the game a little too easy (I never died). Also If you stand on a wall you can shoot enemies from above without being hit.

Then I would suggest adding a small tutorial for the controls (playing fps I had no problems with the R to reload, but some might not know). In addition, putting the sensitivity options on the enter key instead of the esc made me waste some time XD.

Overall a nice work! Hope you will still be able to reach 20 ratings :)

@luka0725 @coding4rtist Well in the description you can see that you use R to reload and that you can change the mouse sensitivity by pressing enter.

The enemies not shooting up was intentional. I wanted the combat to be fairly easy even for people who don't play many fps games. I wanted the focus to be on the puzzle since it is what links the game to the theme.

Thanks for the comments! I'm glad you enjoyed it <3
