The Messenger Assist by graebor

[raw]
made by graebor for Ludum Dare 46 (JAM)

header.png

Board the starship Messenger as a manifestation of the ship's computer, and keep your pilot alive long enough to escape. The game is over after you go to warp and the console reads "Mission Complete" - however, you can continue to tinker with the ship afterwards as long as you like.

Controls: - Mouse - Look around (mouse sensitivity can be changed in the pause menu) - WASD - Move - Left Click - Interact - Escape - Pause

Team: - Code/Art by @graebor - Sound by @julianbeutel - Voice by Lauren Marshall

Made in Unity 2019. Since this is a Jam entry, some small helper scripts from a previous jam were used. We've opted out of Audio since some pre-existing sounds were used in the mix.

Update: We did a small bugfix update at 9pm on April 20th to add a more precise option for mouse sensitivity - for some players the mouse was super sensitive when using vsync, so you can now turn the speed all the way down to 1%.

This looks really cool, but it won't open on MacOS. "The application "MacOS" can't be opened."

I love how atmospheric the sounds are! The visual effects and the sounds really sell the location. Very cool!

This is by far the most professional looking entry I've seen. It looks absolutely gorgeous although it's a really confusing game. It would work great as a mini-game in some bigger sci-fi game honestly. The entire thing is very very immersive compared to most of the other entries :)

As always your output never ceases to amaze me! Great work! Fun game, very atmospheric.

You may have forgotten to include the "audio" section for ratings though. Wasn't your music original? And your game is fully voice acted! We should be able to rate you on audio too. I would have given 5 stars for sure.

Had to play around 3-4 times to understand what's going on, but that's a really great game! Amazing graphics, lovely work with the audio and voice acting, the aesthetics and overall art direction were spot on! Really great job, well done!

Hey thanks @thebreakfast ! Parts of some of the sounds were from a third party and some other effects used were made outside the jam. For those reasons it was decided to opt out of the audio category. As we were working on it I felt like I really wanted to hit the right tone of the game even if it meant stepping outside the rules of the jam. Really glad to hear you enjoyed it! It was a lot of fun putting it together :)

@cheese-team Sorry about that! I've updated the Mac build on itch to hopefully resolve the issue. If you're willing to give it another shot please download a fresh copy and let me know if it works!

This took me about 6 tries before I beat it. It's very short, but since it's very difficult it lasts a while since it takes a bit to figure it out. I had a lot of fun with it! Also, the graphics were insane! What the heck? lol

This game feels insanely good and creative!
I felt so stressed playing it though and had so little idea what she was talking about the whole time. Played like 4 times and saw sooo much red lol. Great game!

I am also on mac and the mac build was still saying cannot be opened. It did not tell me more than that so can't really say why. played the windows version on a vm

The game looks and sounds fantastic. It's sort but very intense. At the beginning is a little bit a mess, you don't know what are you doing, but it's ok. A really good jam entry. Congratulations.

This game blew me away. The sound, the art, everything. It was difficult at first, and it was very short. But I think those two things balance each other out, at least for a jam game. Amazing job!

Lovely graphics, hectic game. I included it in my Ludum Dare 46 compilation video series, if you want to take a look. :) https://youtu.be/Xpc46Nkubiw

Not sure how I did it but I'm probably an expert spaceship engineer now. Was a bit short but everything else feels like a polished finished game, wouldn't expect this sort of quality from a weekend project.

Really cool idea and the polish is fantastic! I love the feel of un/plugging the aux power cables. The puzzle aspects are fairly simple here, but the potential for more complex layouts and systems is obvious. Excellent job!

Wow, intense and interesting stuff! I like the kind of possibility space this setting allows, lots of simple actions creating neat little moments. Really cool. Art is awesome, sound turned out great, love it!

Great art, but I would like a toggle for the motion blurr. The voice acting was also pretty decent. Though, it was pretty hard to understand what needed to be done. I couldn't figure out how to fix the auxiliary power issue (second issue). The mouse sensitivity was also very high; I had to turn it down to 25%.
