Take Out / Break Out by robopossum

made by robopossum for Ludum Dare 46 (JAM)

Overview

In a world fraught with disease and panic buying and that guy on the corner who tries to hug me everytime I go to Happy Shopper for a double decker, who is there to deliver food to the hungry people who need it but can’t be bothered to learn how to cook?

It’s your job as a nameless, faceless, loveless take-away delivery driver to bring the food to those who need it.

WASD to drive. Mouse cursor to look around with on-screen buttons. Left click the phone and cigarette lighter to interact with them.

Avoid mindless road hogs. Your car is prone to overheating. Might need to stick your head out of the window. Answer the damn phone to keep the customer happy! The cigarette lighter is spring-powered and crotch-happy. Don’t burn your wiener!

Running into obstacles will damage the food. You will be graded at the end of the week and there are seven endings to get. Good luck!

Please read before playing

  • The game takes place over 5 days, and the driving section does have an end and should take about a minute to reach. I'd really like it if you could play all 5 days because the team put some real effort into making the endings.
  • The UI isn't as intuitive as I would have liked, but you can only do so much in 3 days. So to explain it a bit further, the phone will ring each day but the phone's location moves each day, click it to answer it. The cigarette lighter can pop out and it causes your screen to flash, you'll need to look down and click on it to get rid of it. The engine smoke obstructs your view and cannot be resolved by the player, lean out of the window to get a better view. The food is beside you, and it shows it's quality and collisions lower it's quality.
  • The level design was left until very late, so the difficulty scale ramps a bit more than I wanted. Again, please persevere for the ending, the levels aren't that long.

Bug

BUG!!! Cutscenes don't work, they play audio and not video. I am working on fixing this, but it is 2am. 9:30am update - The cutscene issue is limited to chrome, and I've tested it in firefox and it is working. Please use the Windows download or firefox until the above is fixed.

Light and funny. Great job! Reminds me of that Desert Bus Penn & Teller game from the Sega CD.

I like the idea of it as sort of a "distracted driving" simulator haha. There were definitely some parts where it was confusing what to do, and with no way to tell how close you are to the destination, it sort of drags on a little too long. But very creative, good entry
