Captain Molly by Saering

Captain Molly is a game about heroism, honor and sacrifice. You play as Molly, a fearless commando, ready to any sacrifice to save innocent kittens. Led by Erwin, you'll have to defeat all the enemies in the Fox Base to complete the mission you have been sent here for.

Made by Éloïse Zirotti and Robin Six.
We uploaded the Ludum Dare build on itch.io, but since we like the game we made, we decided to improve it and work on another build. If you want to rate us, make sure to try the Ludum Dare submission, otherwise, you can download the second archive which is obviously better ! Thank you.

Definitely can be improved in the future.
Roll or dodge action was missing in fighting with enemies.
Great entry
Graphism are excellent for the genre.
The order in layer of the heal pack was over half the character XD but it was a bug I guess ^^
Just two little point triggered me a little:
- The "bouncy" bullet should have another color in my opinion, this was pretty unclear which bullet will bounce and which will not.
- You probably should have put checkpoints when you securise a kitten. Usually Ludum testers are lazy and dont try more than two times an entry where you need to restart the whole game at each death.
Regardless of that, his game was a great entry overall, for two people only it's really nice. good job ! :)
@ironjeff Yes, we're working on sound design so kitten sounds will not be the unique sound effect anymore :p
@paullyaudet Thanks for the feedback ! I did change the bouncing bullets color, that is a good idea. For the checkpoints, we did not add some because the game duration is pretty short actually, but you're right about the ludum testers that don't usually play the games multiple times, so I guess we should have add checkpoints haha
It's a shame that there is no music, since the graphics are really top notch
Yeah the sound design is very bad, but it seems like you have upgraded it in the newer version so ^^
Good job the both of you :3c
I didn't know if we could carry two kitties at once but I went quite far and tried to carry two kitties but got killed by the spikes so i assume we must get back the kitty once you got one.
The design and the graphics are cute and really cool! :)
The upgrades room added a nice addition to the game, reminded me of dungeon of the endless, but in a more simple way of course :)
Well done on your entry!
My only wish is:
- at least one more upgrade (triple bullets or something similar that appears in bullethells)
Thanks for creating it!

Would be nice to see some sort of dodge type mechanic but other than that the game was rather fun to play. I like the kitties on the back part was a really nice touch.
Would be awesome if you could come check out my Tower Defense game I made for the jam: https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/46/ld-46-tower-defense

@maksym Congrats on saving all the kittens haha :p you're totally right about the upgrade thing, we discussed it when we did our post mortem and the games lacks a sense of progression.
@stefan-jovanovic Well, I can just thank you for that, that is flattering :)
I dunno if you get other weapons or not, b/c I accidently did the touchpad gesture to hit the back button after I saved a few kitties. but I feel like a shotgun would be awesome in this game if one doesn't already exist
I am a big fan on the art style here. The gameplay isn't the most engaging but there are a lot of elements to make a game and I think that is why game development is so hard. I turned my volume up really loud because I thought there should be some sound effects but I only heard a super loud kitten meow haha. Honestly that sound effect wasn't that cute and since it was heard from anywhere it became hard to focus on the enemies.
I have to agree with Paul that checkpoints would have been nice since I'm not very good at these kinds of games and because there was no music/sounds it didn't make me feel engaged enough to try again. However, I played the post-jam version and enjoyed that a lot because of the dynamic music and SFX etc. Would have been fun to carry multiple kittens at once though to speedrun the game :p I managed to rescue all kittens in this version.
All in all a nice entry, didn't have an xbox controller and the stream controller I have didn't work with the game but oh well.
More of a twist to it would be cool, and otherwise just more explosions and enemies at all times.
